So what do you think of this map? What does it mean?
The population is heavily weighted with younger people. Without any explanation or clarification, I would assume that these numbers include children still living at home. That fact would heavily skew these numbers in favor of closeness.
Similarly, the inclusion of children temporarily attending college many hundreds of miles from home would skew the numbers in the opposite direction. It would be interesting to see numbers only for people over the age of 25.

my mother does live few towns away... but not so far away that we can't reach quick if needed, and close enough to visit twice a month or so... they do visit my nieces though, lol
That most Americans don't move far from home, especially the more populated areas.
It means most people in the US don't live far from their mothers.
