Why do my parents lock their bedroom door from inside after they go in?

It's usually my dad locking the door. My mom goes to bed around 23:30 and dad joins her half an hour later after his favorite TV program finishes. He doesn't always lock though. Only 2 - 3 times a week I hear that locking sound.
