To those living alone, how do you cope with loneliness?

Just moved to a different state from my sweet hometown in New England ~ And 1 week in , I feel trapped and weird to be honest.. compared to how good life was with friends and family in hometown

I play a game where a certain number of quests are needed for like a weekly reward.

there's two kinds. Weekly where you have all week to complete and Daily where you have yeah like all day and week and so on to complete but after completion you have 11 hours for a new one to replace it.

I used to hate groups in the game who did those and set a high bar, but I actually feel less lonely now away from my parents. I do those because they’re short and long. A good mixture and it keeps me focused and it has a camaraderie feel, a bit.

I definitely feel less lonely and more ambitious trying to make the marks. They’re 50/50 on doable-ness.

Also with that somewhat good feel I imagine the tasks I don’t always enjoy while being alone as quests. Search for a better job. Hours dedicated to learning a new hirable skill. Doing physical labor without the option to ask for help. Like just the other day I broke up a wooden bed frame to put pieces in at a time, into a community dumpster. Did it late at night and swift as possible because well- not every guy in the whole world is trustworthy, so I have to be alert and cautious, as well as now physically able and at least ambitious.

I see all of that as quests.

Just until I get to the better things, more rewarding things. The things I can choose within my power to live a pretty relaxed, anxious-free, stress-free, and loneliness-free life (style).

He saw it as a side quest and I don't know how serious or not, but I see them as like QUESTS quests lol and I’m totally serious about it.

Do whatever you need to do mentally to adjust.

Healthy coping, therapy tactics, hobbies, adjustment exercises or strategies for something like this. I’m sure there’s helpful information on it somewhere. And lastly (still available to you) is self motivation, or pretending and trying to get a new perspective on it that helps. Whether there’s a name for that perspective already and it’s more psychologically certified or something or it’s an inside joke with self like a quest or other.

Be easy on yourself.

You always have the opportunity to go for a pet, go outdoors more and explore the town or meet and greet elsewhere. Online activities. Maybe befriend a neighbor after some time of seeing if anyone seems normal and not life threatening lol

I suppose as a guy you could meet friends at a bar. Or some college party. Look for people around your age. Maybe befriend people at work. At a store or library. Maybe the movies? Don’t just have to pick up dates you can make small talk and befriend 🤷‍♀️.

Pets help a lot too. Any time I watch my sister’s dog for her. I take him on walks in the neighborhood and it’s always nice to do that.

Keeps me mentally active and a walking buddy- physically active too!

Sometimes, being alone and change is good! It makes you stronger and learn to adapt and embrace independence. Go online, find something to do. Explore your new home. Meet groups who has the same interests as you. Go eat at the local restaurants, check out events and mingle with the locals. Before you know it, you’d feel not so lonely anymore. But ofc keep in touch with your love ones back home everyday. You’ll be fine

Having moved away from my family, I understand how lonely it can feel at times. My best advice is to avoid going home for a few weeks until you get adjusted to your new home. Unless this is a temporary living situation, it helps to view this as your home so whenever I visit it's to visit family not "going home."

Second, get involved in your community whether through volunteering or social groups. I highly recommend MeetUp, which allows you to meet others through similar interests. I run a social group to help meet others and there have been countless others who joined my group who are in the same boat -- just moved to the area looking to make connections.

Lastly, keep in touch with your family and friends back home. Not sure how far away from where you moved from, but have little momentos around your home and keep up with traditions.

I always remind myself. Which is worse? 1. Being alone? Or 2. Being in a relationship with a woman who pretends to care about me? I mean in the latter you're actually alone anyhow. You're just trying to delude yourself into believing you're not.

I'm OK Being completely alone because I have a small circle of people that I KNOW care about me. And they're just as committed to me if I was down the street or on the other side of the globe. If I needed help, and it was in thier power to help they would. I don't need to see them everyday. They don't need to see me everyday. Because it's not about quantity, it's quality.

I talk to my friends and family on the phone. I do small things that make me happy and keep me busy. Get out and explore a little bit. I also plan future events when I get to see them again.

I have a wife and 3 little ones. But I have never been one for human company so I actually find myself sometimes wishing I was alone just because i find it very relaxing. Wouldn't trade my wife and kids for that though. My wife does a sufficient job getting me relaxed

Believe it or not, listening to the radio helps me. It's a voice in the room. Sitting in front of a television doesn't work. I guess because looking at the screen makes you feel glued to a device and isolated, computers are the same way.

You can also get involved at your local Church.

I focus on the future. I acknowledge the situation and plan on how I can remedy it. Don't allow yourself to sit in sorrow.

1 week that's totally normal, you need to accept the change. It's going to be uncomfortable but this change is necessary for growth even if long term you return to New England. I jokingly think of such things as a side quest

I just prefer my own company honestly. Besides, I have a job where I am around people for 7-8 hours a day. I get my fill of being around people too often. And even if I didn't have my job and were stuck at home for weeks on end, I have my cat and youtube videos and friends I could text if needed.

I don't know how t' describe some things (/nature). But, I do Ok, by myself, unlike some whoevers'!.

I like it honestly, I have a job where I'm "on" all the time, so to me I enjoy the peace, the quiet, doing something meditative like yard work or gardening. I have a large house with a big yard so I HAVE to to do these things, but I enjoy it. It's nice to be out in nature with the birds and trees and grass.

I'm lucky enough to have a niche of online friends, other than that I focus on my hobbies and things that make me happy. Being alone is not so bad, I can live like this for the rest of my life. When artificial intelligence gives us relationships, it's only going to get better.
