+1 yBecause they don't know God and want to only think about what they want and their own selves, instead of willing the good of the other and sacrificing self for the betterment of the relationship.
Many men try to do Good, but without God, it is often with selfish intentions. When they see women acting out of equally, if not more selfish intentions themselves, they will often react by folding. They'll say "forget it" and drop the ball, assuming most if not all women will act this way towards them if they go on a date with them. And with the costs and convenience of divorce available to women with no fault divorce laws and women winning 90% of the cases in family court, many men share a defeatist view of marriage and the women around them, Concerned and/or scared of loss, abandonment, and disappointment, as well as compensating by flaunting bachelorhood and sexual indulgence, whether implicit or explicit.
Women, on the other hand, are selfish due to having unlimited expectations and desires for more and more. Without God (Proverbs 31) in the picture, They are often told that men will be x and y for them and they arrive to find out men are not like how they thought at all, and one bad experience is all it takes to leave years of jadedness and pain, and to Build walls of selfishness around them to seek a false sense of security. This often leads to them being undateable and for some learning to use manipulation and charm to seek sexual favors as a way to experience status through a perverse merit of unofficial sex work, even if they don't get paid for it, as serial daters. Women, like men, have become hyper-individualized and over sexualized, being free to be whatever they want, including being whorish, cold, miserable. They seek to be their own women, much like how men seek their own place and value to be able to provide. But when they're so focused on themselves, they fail to find love, even if they can buy all of their favorite things, some of which can include boxed wine and adopting few cats.
But God sets things right when both Partners follow him, and aim to remove themselves from being of the world and the perverse culture that ensues in the modern day. God loves all of us, and since so many presume this and do what they want, not realizing their dignity and value through being created by God to love, willing the good of the other.
This is why catholics have the lowest divorce rates, because only lukewarm catholics get divorced (though you can only get a civil divorce in catholic divorce, divorce is condemned in scripture, you can't separate what God enjoins). Devout Catholics and Good Christians who try to follow Jesus who pray, hope, and work out their problems stay together.10 Reply

Lol so true
+1 yBecause many societies value the individual more than society as a hole. Just look at whats on social media and TV. We celebrate selfishness. We celebrate excess and greed. We celebrate what a person has instead of what they do. Would a person like Trump have a chance at being President 20 years ago? We have become a "whats in it for me" society instead of a "whats in it for us"... I guess that attitude makes it hard to argue we are a society anymore.

+1 yYes women can be like that, especially women under 40. they are the most selfish people ever to have lived. Feminism is to blame of course, it is so toxic. We have women using their looks, kids etc to get their own way or a easier time of things usually at the expense of the disabled. They have really suffered due to the feminist movement. Women are no longer doing their roles from the past and being the carers for the disabled, they abort disabled babies just because they cannot cope, take up disabled parking and seats for their kids.
They also think they should get bailed out by men just because they are women and men should bail them out in their view.

Fair enough. I’m sure there are women like that in the world.
Stupid question. Everyone in the entire history of humanity has always been "out for themselves". That is the default state. No selfishness = no life. To even attempt to criticise selfishness is insanity.

I disagree. Not everyone is selfish and that’s just an excuse you use to mistreat others.
- +1 y
That is literally impossible. Everyone is necessarily selfish. They cannot be otherwise. It is a fundamental prerequisite of every living organism in existence.
It has nothing to do with "mistreating" others. Selfishness is simply a matter of prioritising the self over all else... and given that failure to do so leads inevitably to self-destruction, it is entirely necessary for existence. - +1 y
We’ll have to agree to disagree 😊
+1 ySome folk have always been out for Number One, but since the Reagan Administration began its attack on the middle class, heralding the"gig" economy (Ronnie "Ray-Guns" died 20 years ago Wednesday, June 5 at 93), people are fighting for a decreasing share of the pie after the rich make off with the lion's (Tiger's, Red Wing's, Piston's, etc.) share of the spoils.

+1 yWe're so socially distant from each other. If you destroy people's sense of community, they won't ever have any reason to think beyond themselves.

Once, if someone was out in the streets, needing help, people would go and assist them. I heard one of my mum’s neighbours was left bleeding in the street and crying when she needed medical care. Someone eventually had to leave a shop to help her, as people were walking around her. Teenagers are rude to bus drivers and fewer people stand up for parents with kids, pregnant ladies, the aged and the disabled on buses.
