Parents: Do your children over-share details about your life?

So, my wife and I are nudists, and while we don't necessarily hide that information, but we definitely don't broadcast it. The other evening, my 6 year old son told our neighbor that "mom and dad like to be naked a lot" and luckily she expertly directed that conversation elsewhere, and doesn't seem to be offended by it, but I know there's a lot of people that would not react positively to hearing that.

Do your kids overshare? Any advice?

Well yeah, it’s a 6 year old. That kid’s only had awareness of themselves for maybe a year and still don’t know how to fully function. Try just talking to the kid and explaining that the nudism isn’t a normal thing in other houses so don’t talk about it with other people and see if that works. Kids are smarter than we think

They sure do. For example I'm married to my wife but I also have a boyfriend who my daughter refers to as dad. She tells everyone within ear shot about our living arrangements and unfortunately gets picked on for it. She's just excited because she has 3 parents in the end and others don't.

I lost track myself. She tells us when she does say something and someone is mean to her about it. I have no idea about the times when she doesn't hear anything about it. She's only 9, though, so I hope she learns who she can trust in the future and doesn't just share everything.

I feel like people also will brush off what a 6 year old's perception of something is... A 9 year old is a more reliable narrator.

Yeah. The problem is that she is such a social butterfly she makes friends so easily which is a great trait to have, but that means new opportunities to share our lives lol

Oh my kids are absolutely fine with it. It's their peers who give them grief. As far as I know, our oldest doesn't mention it to his friends, but our daughter does and to her teachers and frankly to anyone who will listen lmao

She just thinks it's cool that she has 2 mom's and now a dad joining in the family and she's excited to share that fact.

Overall.. when the mom is mentioned, there isn't any problem.. my wife never got any mean comments when she toke our kids with her at the public pool.. our kids were around 8 years old and she never had issue with keeping our son with her.. on the other side.. every time i did.. we had issues.. i saw weird long looks.. or comments about it.. the lifeguards came once to tell us that she wasn't allowed in she was only 5 or 6 at that time!! I let her know about the fact that i will never leave my kids alone 5sec... (She was still too young).. so she (the lifeguards) took us (me my son and I) to the pool depot.. where all the floats or other things were stored. We got dressed up there before opening up. The idea wasn't that bad.. but first.. imagine getting dress in a place next to the pool with clear window on the upper half of the wall and 3 lifeguards prepping up and walking by every 5 minutes.. of course all 3 of them did look, on top of it my son (younger than my daughter) did run out with only his floats on and no swimsuit, the lifeguards took him back in while I was fully naked.. and started to tell me that he couldn't get out untill she opened the pool.. and me answering her back.. "yea yeah.. i can't get dress and him and my daughter all in 5sec.. indeed it can happened that he did something that he shouldn't while i get the other ready.. anyway if its that important.. feel free to stand next to the door so he stayed in here". So she stand just infront the door.. lol

@matchrestore As we are nudist at home everytime too, and have 19 yr old son.

He now respect our nudity and doesn't share with others.

When he was at age 6-12yr old, yes he used to share with neighbors but our neighbors didn't mind it either but used to teach him to respect our choice

You can't prevent them from sharing what they perceive as normal. I support your lifestyle completely but I can see how that could easily be misunderstood or worse. I don't know
