How do you deal with territorial friends?

ie: friends who get upset when you hang out with other friends, wants you all to themselves, etc.

have a talk with them. asap. be honest. you need to tell them how their behavior makes you feel. but try to keep the conversation light, make sure you tell them that you still value their friendship

you definitely have to set some boundaries too when you're with your other friends. that could be done by telling the territorial friend that just because you are spending time with other friends, doesn't mean the friendship between you two isn't important to you. these kind of people need reassurance. they are insecure, so when they see you hanging out with others, they automatically think the worse and could think they did something wrong. they kinda self sabotage themselves like that

but also stay consistent and firm about your boundaries. you don't want to be giving into guilt trips or being manipulated by them or it will continue/get worse

you could also just include them. not sure how that'd go, depends on the person

if this goes deeper than just jealousy, like they are experiencing abandonment issues, then they really need to seek out help for that. it's not a fun way to live, for sure
