This is someone I grew up with during my early childhood years. We were both 6 years-olds when we met, used to play together, went to the same schools (grade, midde and high school) and our parents got along well. We would tell our secrets and he was like a brother to me. Let's call him John.
I heard from others that John had a secret crush on me for the longest but I was into other guys. I just took it as a rumor, not confirmed. There was a time my best friend once joke about me and John getting together. I told her I don't love him in a romantic manner and John walked in, hearing that. He didn't seem bothered though, but smiled at us and left to go to class. After our prom night (after our HS graduation) party, while very drunk he once jokingly told me ''So (my name), if I were to ever pop you the question. I don't mean asking you on a date. I don't mean girlfriend. I mean proposing to you, what would you said'' but I told him it can't happen and he's like my brother to me. He started laughing, then replied ''Just kidding, stupid booze doing that to me, sorry. Off course you're a sister to me. Forget I ever asked you that. This conversation never happened. I'm just drunk and talking nonsense now. Sorry''.
We're now 22 year-olds. I've been dating someone recently; we're not boyfriend and girlfriend yet but things are likely getting serious. Anyways we all had an large camping party with a pool. We had to meet-up to take a bus. John gave me an address to meet up with him, just the two of us. However, he gave me a totally wrong address. I searched it on the map and it leads to a deserted road (far from home and lower signal), totally opposite of the event location, no where near his University campus. He wanted me to come alone, just the two of us. When I informed him that I'll be coming with two friends and my male cousin, he suddenly gave me the excuse that his car got stranded on the road, said he won't be able to come to the event and apologized. I feel betrayed.

Might have bad intentions, considering it's a deserted location. Gosh, he didn't even make an effort to meet on a restaurant or somewhere safe for you. 🤦🏻♀️
Yes, when I told this to my other friends and showed them the messages (he seemed super eager to meet me alone on that deserted road), they got worried for me. All of them are thinking he has become obsessed with me over the years and had bad intentions. This is like a total betrayal to me. I feel so sad. This was my bestie from our early years, so many years of knowing that man and now it's like he changed into someone I never knew.
I guess his hypothetical question of what if he propose to me was the first bad sign. We both took it as a joke, not to ever be mentioned again but it wasn't. I'm disappointed and sad.
I'm so sorry to hear that. 😔 Some people really do change.. even the ones you trust the most. by the way, that was really smart of you to search the location first before going! ❤️ I hope other girls do the same like you did.

I'm super sad to be honest. I can't believe this came from someone so close in my life and trusted. I knew that man since we were little kids.
