Whats your theory why "Friends" flip the script?

I recently had to end a short term friendship. I saw little yellow flags for the frist 2 months. Then this person completely flipped the script accused me of doing I wasn't and when I defended myself she got offended and tried to gas light and manipulate me saying I was unstable and not emotionally safe. I was setting the record safe and I had to defend myself. 0 accountability. I kinda knew she would so this, weeks back she acted different around folks we know then when we were 1 on 1.
