Both were coworkers.

One of them was studying culinary arts and seemed way too posh until he realized I wasn't gonna punch or fire him. We were boys within a week of that realization.

The other guy was a high schooler who was quite literally trying to shove a broom up someone's a** the first time I saw him. Dude was harmless, but an absolute clown and jokester. I knew we would be boys the instant I saw him running into a freezer to escape the wrath of his amused but waddling friend.

Many times. We all wear masks. We show the world a very finely curated version of who we want to be perceived as. Seeing past that illusion often warrants ending any and all possibility of friendship.
