Hello, I got married last autumn and my wife, who was miserable studying at a department she hated (literature teaching), told her parents she wanted to suspend her university a year but we promised she will graduate. We decided she should change department and they openly accepted this but since have always behind our backs been talking as if they know she won't and while studying extremely hard for the entrance exam and looking for which department she wanted, they were constantly angry claiming that she didn't study at all or that she gave up.
Results came and they weren't enough for the English teaching they want but good enough for most things that seemed interesting to her. They insisted she continue her old department (they don't know we already cancelled) or wait a year to try again for English teaching. We decided Chinese language and literature was both the most interesting and useful and told them as much. Initially her father said he supported and only wanted a clear goal but hours later they were saying horrible things to her resulting in a large fight with them and later between us as I argued we should throw the phone aside and stop talking to them for a while.
She immediately changed her mind wanting to try English language and literature saying it was now more interesting and hoping it will keep her from fighting with them every day.
What should we do with her parent and what to study?
