Is this child abuse?

Okay so I was talking a friend about my childhood and I told her when I would say the wrong things or get in trouble my mother used to lock me in an empty closet for a few hours and come back when I wasn’t in trouble anymore. isn't that normal? She said it wasn’t... but isn’t it like a timeout?

my mom would lock me in the bathroom until my dad came home and disciplined me. wasn’t great. but i feel like i turned out alright after all. my relationship with my mom is just fine now


are you okay or do you harbor trauma from childhood. that’s the only important thing. it’s not an objective line that gets crossed but it’s how your mental state turns out. if you’re scarred, your parent was awful. if you’re okay then your child self seems to have understood you were being shown tough love for your good. sometimes we look back at our childhood and it seems maybe shocking but i suggest don’t ask other people’s feelings and make more of it than it is if you’re mentally well and emotionally stable

That's a bit harsh! They do that to prisoners being put in solitary confinement!
My mother would make me sit in a chair for 10:00 away from anything I could play with and if I got up or started playing with something anyway, she'd add another 5:00.
