Never ran into that situation but I do have some relatives who have shady lives in other ways. I never felt "ashamed" more like I keep my distance and if they want to try and push themselves into my life then I'm forced to tell those closest to me why "uncle bob" is never welcome in my home. That's on bob that I had to give a reason. A reason I wouldn't have had to give otherwise, most likely. And for those who think this is harsh.. it's never just ONE reason. It's always more like 5+ different ones and the list gets longer every couple of years.

I think @Maybe_Maybe_not gave a beautiful delivery piece of advice. I was going to say in quite a similar advice that an occupation does not define a person and does not make them any less than any other person. For example, just because someone holds the job title of a Doctor or Engineer, does that automatically mean they're a great person? nope! There is so much more to our identity. Sometimes, people do what they do because maybe they are financially struggling and they feel like that's the only way to survive; some may not have the right guidance and support system in their life; maybe it's a passion that we may or may not agree nor understand but that's their thang; and at the end of the day, they're still family... family is all we ever have, sometimes, we gotta put away our clouded judgments and ponderings by starting with showing respect and acknowledgment to them.

Sorry to tell you but... Yes, I think you need to consider that you are being unfair towards your family's jobs. There is a brightside though, if you think this through for a moment, a job doesn't define someone, a job is a job, a sister in a strip club is not shameful because your sister is not a criminal, she is your sister and she deserves your respect. So, with some time, considering these thoughts, you may realize that this shame you once felt is gone because you now see your sister as the person she is, not the job she has ;)

Once again, the respectability of a job talks about a job, your sister is not her job, she is a person doing a job, and possibly not for fun, but for necessity. I told you about respecting your sister, not respecting her job, these are two different ideas
