My mom freaks out and then acts like nothing happened? Why she does it?

My mom often yells at me for hours, usually through my closed door, without any apology or acknowledgment afterward. She then acts friendly, as if nothing happened. It confuses me because she’ll be nice right after, leaving me wondering if I should just ignore it. I left for work early today to avoid the yelling, and when she called, she only remarked on me leaving early, completely ignoring the earlier argument. It makes me feel a bit crazy.

She needs to go see a doctor. I'm not a doctor nor can I say with certainty but I had family members like that and they were diagnosed bi-polar which is very hard for them to deal with alone. You're way too old to be yelled at like that for hours. No one of any age deserves that actually. You gotta tell her what it's doing to you and what it looks like when she's doing it. Advise help from doctors to see if she needs some help. If she flips out then it's probably an indication she does but you need to remove yourself then.

You want us to tell you why your mom, who we don’t know, suddenly bursts out and “yells” at you? Why would anyone here know that? You’re nearly 30… The only person who has known your mom that long is you.


If the alleged yelling follows something you did to piss her off… then that’s the reason.


If the alleged yelling follows something you don’t do that pisses her off… then that’s the reason.


If you believe her to be clinically insane … then that’s the reason.


There’s nothing WE pile of strangers can determine about one random allegedly screaming woman in the vast universe.

I'm sorry you're dealing with that. My mom is like that too, she can't apologize or address her actions at all. Even if she knows she was being too hard on me she won't actually say sorry she'll just buy me something to try to make up for it lol

It's difficult to realize it but parents are people with the same type of shortcomings, lack of patience etc. that ourselves and our peers have. With parents you've grown up depending on them, idealizing them and the discovery that they are human sometimes takes us by surprise. I think it's especially weird with sexuality i. e that you existing is the result of your parents ( of all people) being horny.

Having studied bipolar behavior, that sounds right on the money. Of course it doesn’t have to be full fledged bipolar. I think there’s a spectrum for everything.

Watch cop body cams on YouTube and you’ll see most criminals have mental problems, if not strange mood swings.
