How can a mother be very calm at her daughter's wake?

On Monday I received a terrible news from one of my friends. His female cousin died in a tragic accident when a small bus fell into a ditch 200 meters, killing her and 5 others. She was just 28 years old (9 years younger than me) and left behind her 10 year-old son. So a couple of us and my brother went to her wake, offering our condolences. My brother and I met the woman's father, whom was greatly devastated. His eyes were red, swollen and watery.

Later on, we met the woman's mother and she was very calm, no tears at all. She thanked us for coming. In a soft, quiet voice she actually went over the details of the accident, her daughter's last message on her cell and the gruesome condition her crushed, mangled body barely identified by her father. The only way he could tell it was her was due to a birth mole.

I think this is the first time I've heard of a mother being very calm like that. How is the possible? Her daughter had just died Friday night/Saturday dawn and Monday was her wake.

The link is the woman that died. The father seemed more devastated than the own mother. He was in tears but the mother wasn't. Then again, the mother only explained it was the father that identified her body but not her. Still is that shocking... a mother being very calm even at such a terrible moment?

she's probably just holding it together rn but will feel it once everything is done with the funeral and people forget

could also probably be shock or maybe she just accepts death different. it could be she hates vulnerability too

Its shock, shock can last for seconds for some people while for others it can take well over a year.

Everyone grieves differently. Maybe she hasn't fully accepted she's gone yet.

True. I have another theory of why she might be more calmer than the father. Maybe, can it be due to the fact that it was the father that identified her body but not her? She didn't really get to actually see the mangled body but the poor man did. She was only told about the accident afterwards.

2. The mother is a woman of faith and believes her daughter is redeemed.

Could be delayed shock, she might have been sedated or could be the toll of identification
