Those of you who answered this question will see the question asked again due to this particular question being in a guys only category when the question was suppose to be both guys and girls.

All the sociological research indicates that in the modern USA the best combination of kids is girl first then boy then stop. The firstborn is always likely to please and will succeed at many tasks and having a girl first will help build her confidence in the face of misogyny. Having the boys second, his older sister will be a moderating influence and a calming presence in the house.
The parents will benefit from this arrangement.

I realize this is just a backhanded way of putting the responsibility on the older sister / first born but having taught sociology and 20 years of observation in the classroom I sincerely believe that this dynamic is best.
