Is friendship really like this?

Why do some say that real friendships are only forged before adulthood especially teen life? Why do some say that best friends only come before adulthood? What does these mean?

The reason why many friendships are formed in childhood or when you're a teenager, os because you're together all the time, on school or doing sports etc.
You're all close by and kind of forced to spend all the time together.

Does it mean it's impossible to get close friends when you're an adult?
No, not at all.

But it can be more difficult.

My closest friends, one I got in college, other two I got when I was around 27.

That has been true for me. I was really close to people I went to college with but after 4 or 5 years I never saw any of them again. I still have all my friends from the old neighborhood except the ones that are dead
