I’m visiting family abroad I haven’t seen in many years and none of them are really bothering to respond to my messages to make any plans why?

That's super rude of them! Like you came all this way to see family and they're not even making an effort. Maybe they're just really bad at keeping in touch these days or seem to only care about catching up with family that lives closer. Still, the least they could do is suggest some times to meet up!

I'd keep trying to reach out, like send another message being all "Hey, let me know if you want to grab coffee one afternoon this week." And if still no response, ask if there's any family events like a barbecue you could crash or invite them to dinner at your hotel. That way the ball's in their court to at least accept or suggest something else.

If they blow you off again, then don't waste your time chasing after them. They clearly aren't that interested, which really sucks. But hey, at least you tried! Use that free time to explore the area yourself instead or meet up with any other family members who do want to see you. Their loss!

And maybe next time you invite them to visit you, return the favor and be "too busy" to meet up haha. Teach them a lesson! Either way, try not to let their rude behavior bring you down - hope you can still enjoy your trip!
