Pretty much my mom accidentally named my new dog the same name as my best friend's sister's cat that just passed away 😔
I live with my parents and my brother and we just got our first puppy a few weeks ago 🐕💕 My mom's coworker was giving them away and my mom wanted one but she couldnt get it until Friday the 8th. We started coming up with names and my mom really really fell in love with the name Rocco.
My best friend's sister's cat just passed away and coincidentally his name was also Rocko (same name different spelling).
Tbh I didn't make the connection between both of their names at the time since I was so excited to get the puppy but I didn't like that name for the dog. I wanted to go with something like Peanut but my mom was set on Rocco.
Long story short, my best friend is upset with me saying that it's insensitive to call my dog Rocco and her feelings are hurt. I apologized and I tried to explain to her that I didn't name the dog and that my mom did but she's still upset.
We had our fight/argument through text Friday the 8th and it was all a big misunderstanding. What can I do to mend things between us?

I didn't reach out to her until last Tuesday to give her some space and I didn't get a response. On Wednesday I sent her some Starbucks to her job but I wanted to surprise her so I didn't say that I sent it. And again, no response or anything. Yesterday I went on Ig and I saw that she has now unfriended me..💔
What should I do to fix things? We can't change the dog's name but anything else I can do to restore the friendship? I feel like she assumed things but maybe she's still grieving.

I forgot to add that she met someone on a pet grieving site and I think that that person added fuel to the fire.

Tell your friend to grow up, your mom is allowed to call her dog what she wishes.
