Is there a point where you can be too honest to someone you’ve known for a bit?

I have a friend and I’m very blunt to them. They always get defensive and end the conversation abruptly. I just think if I’m always responding the same way and they keep saying the same stuff to begin, then shouldn’t they figure it out. It’s not my job to cushion my words so people aren’t hurt by them.
