What's something surprising that you were afraid of as a child?

I remember my mom once showed me a picture of a baby- it was abnormal and looked very very alien type, he didn't have normal facial features and he was either having the worst birth defect or it was heavily edited. I remember it vividly till now because it became my nightmare and everything. The picture was going viral in Facebook and whatsapp with the caption 'Look at this alien taking birth instead of a baby!'. My parents were seeing that picture and they were talking about it and I got curious so my mom showed it to me.

Either way, it scared the shit out of me, which was actually very rude of me if it was an actual child and the photo wasn't edited, but I was only 5 years old then! For some days after seeing that picture I was afraid to be in dark alone, thinking that the baby is around. Then my fear for loud sounds became worse. And then the sound of toilet flushing became really really really scary for me. Actually after seeing that picture, I went straight to the bathroom to pee. And when I flushed the toilet, my heart started beating so fast, as if I'm being chased by a predator. And then I realised I'm afraid of toilet flushing noise. So going to the toilet became a sport for me, I had to run as fast as I could so that I won't hear that sound. I don't know how seeing that baby's pic gave me the fear of toilet flushing noise, I don't have any idea- it just did!

I had that fear till last year and now I don't have that fear at all. It started fading away after I turned 13 but still, whenever I flush the toilet, I'm reminded of this whole situation.

I was always fascinated by those nearly mile long sprinklers called center pivot irrigators. When I was 5-7 we went to Wisconsin for vacation to see my relatives. My uncle invited me to turn on a center pivot irrigator. We drove out to the well part of it, the very end (I call it the butt) and he took me to the main panel and he said press this button to turn it on…then run like hell because you don’t want any of the stuff in that water to get on you! I hit the on button and it started and I then looked up and saw how tall that damn thing was! I froze, my uncle ran back and grabbed my arm and we ran for his truck. Once inside I saw how long and how tall it was and I was crying and shaking close to hyperventilating. (I’m not kidding I’m starting to shake remembering and typing all this to you people). Anyway he asked if I wanted a popsicle and all I did was nod. We went to a country store and he got me a I’m not kidding - a 2-3 foot long grape ice pop. To this day, I can look at center pivot irrigators from a great distance but not close up. I still shake when I have to drive by them when I go to the beach because there’s lots of farmland that has them. I counted I think 15-20 of them. If I have to drive near one, I’ll put my left or right hand up like if I was half saluting and half blocking out the sun out of my eyes.

When I first saw Betty Boop, the shape of her head scared me. Now, I collect those cartoons! The Fleischer Brothers made some of the best cartoons ever made!!
My dad took me to a parade when I was little and had me sit on his shoulders. The guy with the bass drum marched by us inches away and the sound of his drum made my stomach vibrate and it scared me so much, I cried. Now, I LOVE nice loud bass.
In the early `70's, I started hearing rumours that Paul McCartney was dead and, SOMEHOW, I got this notion that he was hiding in my parents' bedroom (but ONLY at night!) across the hall from the stairs up to my room and I had to rush up the stairs as fast as possible to keep him from coming out of their bedroom with a huge butcher knife to try to kill me!! Somehow, being past the landing near the top of my stairs meant I was safe.

When I was a little kid , I would watch the Price is Right with my Mom and I loved the show , until the Mountain Climber Game came on , and the second I saw that mountain climber go up the mountain with the friggin music I would run and hide and be freaked out , something about the damn mountain climber that scared the shit out of me lol I laugh about it now , but damn he was evil lol

Heights. Still am, haha, no matter what I tell myself mentally, my knees turn to Jell-O the second I’m like 8-10 feet off the ground. Still have never climbed a tree to this day, lmao. I’m fine with fall-and-die heights, it’s the fall-and-break-your-leg heights that spook me.
