What's something surprising that you were afraid of as a kid?

Still afraid of it today. I've always heard that fear itself is the only thing to fear. But as a child I was never afraid of anything. This caused me to end up in many dangerous situations. I joined the military in hopes to find fear to see if I'm normal I never found it. I've been in many confrontations never finding myself afraid. I realized finally my fear was being unusual or rejected. So I in fact had a fear of being alone but now that I'm grown and married with children my first real fear came to me at the age of 20 when my son was born 9lb perfect little ball of all fears wrapped up in a ball. You will never know true fear until you realize the ties that bind you are the chink in your armor

I was so creeped out and I cried
my mom and dad said to me "whats up son why are you crying''
and im pointing to Mona Lisa and saying: this womans eyes are following me and she's so scary then I didn't slept for like a week because the painting was in the middle of the corridor and everytime I pass I could see she was staring at ME and this SMILE oh my god its so creepy

I was terrified of roaches and I was afraid of the dark. I'm not afraid of the dark any more (but maybe occasionally I might be) and I'm not really terrified of roaches any more but they do creep me out a bit

When I was really young, I still used a baby bottle. One time, I was drinking orange juice out of a baby bottle and I went downstairs to hang out with my siblings, leaving the bottle upstairs.. When I went back up to drink my orange juice, I noticed the nipple was black.. There were no lights upstairs since it was in a poor village.. So, I just put it in my mouth and yea.. They were ants.. Tons of ants.. In my mouth.. I was scared of course..

I was, when I was a baby and sooner as a kid, extremely scared of this man. He was a friend of my grandparents. Taal with a beard. And for some reason, he terrified me. When I saw him as a baby, I cried and I hid from him as a kid.

Not really surprising more just common. But the dark. Now it's my bestfriend. And even when i was scared from it, i didn't handle it that bad. I never really complained about it, just some nights i would take longer to get to sleep. But reading or watching something solved that problem pretty easy.

Monster House and a Rubber Dinosaur that was around the same size as me, even I loved and still love dinosaurs. Also giant, armored, eyeless, spoon-like horned Rhinos. One time I had a dream that I was in the field of my old school across the fence from my Grammy’s house. It was in third person and I was a Hummingbird. It was morning and was a little foggy. Towards the area where he had P. E was where I saw the creature I just described. (I’m not sure if they had eyes or not, I don’t remember seeing any). They charged at me and I do remember feeling extremely horrified. I flew over to my Grammy’s house in perfect time and the dream ended. Wanna hear some more of my dreams?

There was a teacher in my elementary school that I believed was a serial killer when I was 5 years old, and I never even had a single conversation with him, I just thought he looked weird.

Loud noises or rather unexplained loud noises.

Which when you consider I joined the Air Force working on jet aircraft, deployed on Ops etc is just bizarre.

Also another bizarre one, snakes.

I watched a program on tv where this or these snakes were under a sofa and since then (only as a kid) I could not put my feet on floor if sitting on a sofa, I grew out of it when I realised in Newcastle UK it was never going to happen…

When I was 5 I watched Floor lamp (Amityville 4: The Evil Escapes, 1989)
the stupid movie had be tweaking about lamps for years. I refused to have them in my room and refused to turn them off at night.

Opening my eyes in the middle of the night.
Thrice, I saw colorful skulls and distorted faces in the air when I opened my eyes at night.

Other classmates parents, especially their moms. I used to be abit cheeky and cause havoc in school, but I was good at talking my way out of situations with teachers so my parents never knew about anything I did, so always during parents evening I’d be absolutely terrified of other adults incase theyd rat me out
