With some friends it used to be a thing and within the last ten years I put a stop to it. The video you linked is the exact reason. It started feeling like that's the only reason they'd see me. I used to do this because I was very successful when I was in my 20s and not many 20 something years olds make much which is understandable. After a while I noticed some of these friends only invited me out so I would pay to which felt really bad. I thought these were friends for life. Sometimes if you're more successful than others people get jealous which is depressing. I am always happy for anyone who's in a better situation than me. Especially if they earned it and even if they didn't.

The folks that remained are my real friends today. It's nice to pick up the tab for friends and family if you can do so. That said no one should expect it. If I invite you out though it's my intention to pay. If someone invites me out I won't assume that but if I'm invited to a party of 30 come on that's taking advantage. Even if I can pay.
