1 yDiscipline is used to correct and train people to go in the right way. “No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it” (Hebrews 12:11). God’s discipline is loving, as should it be between parent and child. Physical discipline should never be used to cause lasting physical harm or pain. Physical punishment should always be followed immediately by comforting the child with assurance that he/she is loved. These moments are the perfect time to teach a child that God disciplines us because He loves us and that, as parents, we do the same for our children.
Can other forms of discipline, such as “time-outs,” be used instead of physical discipline? Some parents find that their children do not respond well to physical discipline. Some parents find that “time-outs,” grounding, and/or taking something away from the children is more effective in encouraging behavioral change. If that is indeed the case, by all means, a parent should employ the methods that best produce the needed behavioral change.

@NordicInScandinavia Well obviously you got no discipline when you were young. You seem to have a lot of hatred and anger in you for some reason. 🙄
@NoDecision
I wasn't abused no. I got a lot of hatred and anger because I think "God" is no good?
If you say so.- 1 y
@NordicInScandinavia If you have problems I think most of them are your own doing. You certainly have the free will to mess up your own life, and then you blame God for it. It's always easier to blame someone, or something else, for your problems instead of owning them.
@NoDecision
You're right, it is my doing that a man abused me as a 9 year old, you're right. Shouldn't have teased him. It's god's plan that children are abused.- 1 y
@NordicInScandinavia As I said, God has given each of us free will. If he wanted robots we would have been droids. But, the downside is that not everyone does good with their free will, as they are free to do good or bad. Any which way you look, you will see people making choices, and in this world, many are making evil choices. So, again, you are blaming God for what someone else chose to do with their free will. And they will be judged for them in the end, as all of us will.

@NordicInScandinavia No one is made anything. We are all born without sin. It is what happens in your early years up to high school that can define you. Maybe you should blame your parents as they were in charge of your upbringing.
- 1 y
@NordicInScandinavia FFS, get over it! You would blame the ground you walk on if you tripped because you weren't looking at where you are going. You put the blame on anyone but yourself. No one is responsible for how you live your life but you. Sometimes you get served some lousy veggies on your plate. You could complain, or just make a stew out of it and turn it into something good. But does Nordic do that? Nooooo! 🙄

1 yNot a beating, but a simple spanking you bet I believe in it. However I have found the most effective process is called a time out!

Children actually understand far far more than people give them credit for.
The other old Chestnut " I got beaten in the woodshed and it didn't do me any harm " - Its did , you were abused , physically abused , it affected your poor judgement.

Child abuse remains just that , thugs are created by initial abuse , to hit a defenseless child in the name of " That will teach them " is beyond , pure and utter stupidity..
Why do you think boys homes were outlawed? = Thats my update..
If I see anyone striking any child , I will follow it up myself , noone has this " right " .
Yes; I believe in spanking anyone who demonstrates the need to receive one.

1 ymodern experts say any type of "violence" like spanking always yields bad results. but at the same time we're in the least "violent" generation ever and everything is going down hill. so I don't know. i'm still on the fence about it. cause in social science and child developmental science doesn't really point to any benefits at all. at the same time, highly educated people are most likely dead left and wouldn't allow such results to be published if they existed.
10 Reply Hitting is always terrible. Fortunately, we no longer live in the Middle Ages. People who hit their children should be beaten themselves.

1 yOf course!! Otherwise, you get the same thing all those loony lefties turned out to be!!
125 ReplySo the only way you could learn was with violence? That's kinda messes up and if that is the case I do understand a bit why America is as it is, if that is the only way for you people to learn.
- 1 y
@NordicInScandinavia That's not violence.
The way America is the way it is now is because there WAS NO punishment!! All the kiddie winkies are entitled, self-centered, spoiled rotten little brats, now! Remember a few years ago when they were tearing down statues, smashing cars, looting, setting buildings on fire, killing people, destroying entire cities? THOSE are the one that DIDN'T get punished!!
WE (my generation) were taught to RESPECT others AND their property!!
Woodstock is another example. At the one in `69 when I was a kid, half a million people were there for at least 3 days under terrible conditions and, other than a couple arguments and a minor fist fight or two, everything was very calm and peaceful!! Fast forward 25 and 30 years and those two Woodstocks in `94 and `99 were a nightmare!! Chaos, destruction, raging fires, fights galore, rampaging, theft, rape and I think there was even a murder or two. Sure as fuck wasn't my generation that was there!! @FunkyMonkee
Hitting someone is violence, hitting someone repeatedly is violence. I'm again sorry you can not learn without.
I've done none of the things above, never been abused - guess we just different.- 1 y
@NordicInScandinavia THERE'S A DIFFERENCE!! TRY to learn it!!
No, spanking is hitting - hitting is abuse.
I'm sorry you couldn't learn without abuse and I'm truly sorry you can't manage to communicate properly with kids and let that go out on them.- 1 y
@NordicInScandinavia THERE'S A DIFFERENCE!! TRY to learn it!!
Spanking is just slapping someone on the ass a few times as a form of punishment or disciplinary action! No major harm done except that it might sting for a while. You've probably been spanked by your boyfriend at times. Is THAT violence?
Hitting is punching or smacking someone anywhere else on their body out of hatred!! THAT'S violence!! There's no difference, slapping is simply hitting someone with a open hand.
If I slap you right across the face - I'm being violent towards you. That you're hitting someone other places than the face, doesn't remove the fact that it is hitting someone
If I get spanked by my partner then it is with MY consent.
You know what kids to not consent to? Being hit by their parents. And thus it becomes violence.- 1 y
@NordicInScandinavia Yes, and if you slap an as cheek, that's a spank! That's NOT violent!
- 1 y
@NordicInScandinavia Doesn't matter, you're still getting spanked.
Doesn't matter! YOU'RE the parent, NOT them!! It's not done out of violence or hate! THAT'S the difference! @FunkyMonkee
There's no difference. Hitting is hitting. It's sad that you can only get children to listen is by smacking them.- 1 y
@NordicInScandinavia The difference is THE REASON for hitting!
@FunkyMonkee
No, the reasoning behind hitting doesn't change the action. You still need to smack a child for them to listen. You need to be smacked to learn.
& I actually lied, I've been smacked the fuck out of my senses by my dad and you know what Him doing it out of love wouldn't have changed a damn thing. And I'll never stoop so low as to smacking a child because I lack the capability of coming across without a smacking them Round.I know I could've learned without being smacked - it was sometimes with a flat hand, so it's not REALLY hitting.
Ps my dad didn't hate me and his intentions were to discipline me, so not violence.
- 1 y
@NordicInScandinavia Sure there is! Punishment. That's what was wrong with the last administration. people committed crimes and, instead of being punished, they were set free to commit more!
It sure as fuck DOES change the action!! If any of us did something bad, we got punished for it and it was enough to let us know not to do it again!!
Sounds like he was a bastard., then. That wasn't punishment, that was rage.
"Smacking them round"? That's not punishment, that's rage! - 1 y
@NordicInScandinavia That's exactly what I've been saying!
He smacked me with the intention of doing me good. He did right according to you
- 1 y
@NordicInScandinavia Again, you've made my argument for me!
@FunkyMonkee
I know. I'm now agreeing with you. My father wasn't violent towards me since his intentions weren't punishment but dicipline (in his eyes)
Doesn't matter how many bruises I got, it's all about his intentions and adults should raise their hand at children
- 1 y
@NordicInScandinavia Same here but I never got bruises because he never HIT ME out of anger and would just make my ass a bit sore for a short while. He DID do a lot of screaming and having tantrums, breaking things but, he NEVER HIT ME in anger!! In `89 or `90, we patched things up due in great part to an XTC song that I wrote the words to in my own hand and left on the kitchen table that night as if I'd forgotten to take them to my room with me that night in hopes that he'd find them and it'd stop him from fighting with me so much. It worked like a charm and, other than a couple times where he got a bit miffed at me for playing a wrong card in a card game, he never yelled at me again! I made it a point to play that song at his funeral. Maybe it didn't mean shit to anyone else there at the service but it had me crying through the whole ceremony. I could barely talk! It's even got me tearing up a bit right now.
@FunkyMonkee
Lucky you. I was. Oh poor dude, has anger issues and that was enough for you to walk away, but HITTING you was fine?
No wonders you find abusing children alright.
Letz just agree to disagree, I'll NEVER agreed that SMACKING a child ANYWHERE on the body is acceptable and if you as an adult have to SMACK a child for them to listen, then you're failing miserably and letting that failure out on the child.- 1 y
@NordicInScandinavia SPANKING ME when I was a kid. That stopped around the time I became a teen.
I DON'T find abusing children to be alright! Abusing them is NOT teaching them right from wrong, like my asshole nephew! His dumbass dad killed himself by drinking, taking medicine and driving on icy roads at night, his mother was too busy partying and having a life to stay home to raise him the right way and, because he had no guidance, he got into heavy drugs, stealing, wrecking car after car, he had no respect for anything or anybody, and has been arrested at least once on graffiti charges and resisting arrest.
No, `tis you that failed. @FunkyMonkee
You're right. He should have been smacked around. Then he would've been a better person and maybe succeeded. Smack smack, that's the only way children learn.- 1 y
@NordicInScandinavia It is!
