Physical punishment has been used throughout humanity since humanity was born. At that time nature gave physical punishment to humanity when it was bad or stupid by killing them. Evolution though was a chemical in the humanity persons that caused the ones who weren't bad or stupid to survive and reproduce and that evolution chemical was passed on to their children to be not bad and smart. Many generations of this not bad and smart made the humanity we saw today where our not bad has become very concentrated (and some not at all) in some and they think that the thought of a humanity person harming another humanity person physically was bad..
This causes a confusion in the humanity person because they remember that being stupid was likely to get nature to stop them being humanity persons by killing them. The short sharp controlled harming by older humanity persons had been tried and tested over many generations and it worked. Nowadays the overly concentrated chemical has been allowed to warp the need for controlled physical containment and lesson teaching of young humanity people and the idea of using words and explanations to them has created confused maladjusted humanity people who think they can do as they please and when others who have still got appropriate levels of the evolutionary chemical use it with them they become confused and upset.
It's never done me no harm
There is a wide spectrum of Corporal Punishment. My father spanked me but talked to me later to make sure I understood why and that he did not hate me. Believe me that we more brain wrenching than the belt. I have a friend whose Corporal Punishment must have been much more harsh. She takes a more lenient view and is against it altogether. It depends on whether you punish in anger or you settle down and wait til you have cooled down. Anger can turn to rage and rage has no throttle. Remember that your hand can inflict heavy damage on an young body.
Personally, I am a non believer of corporal punishment. It can also result in psychological issues later in life. A person that has been punished physically may develop to be a very bitter person that may beat up his/her partner later in life or to be physically abusive towards others.
I have been raised without corporal punishment but instead, my parents invested a lot of time explaining the consequences of an action I did and why it was wrong. A good example of what happened to me was this one.
When I was a kid, I stole one of those erasers that you put at the tip of a pencil from the corner store. My heart was beating like crazy because I knew I did something that was inappropriate.
By some mysterious coincidence, my father got wind of it and made me write an apology letter to the owner of the store. He came with me and while he waited in front of the store, I was obliged to go into the store and deliver the apology letter to the owner while waiting for his reaction.
I could have died of shame and once the shop owner read my apology letter, he had a tear in his eye but gave me a sermon about my dishonest behavior. Nevertheless, he told me I could keep the eraser...
That was my most shameful behavior and something I am not proud of.
I said "spanking", not a "beating". I know lots of people who were spanked. They learned respect and right from wrong. Today people show no one respect, and don't even respect the sanctity of life.
any physical violence is wrong by default
the only exception is when you are defending your life...
children need love, unconditional love
they need parents to see the world from their point of view
and then they need their parents to explain to them what went wrong
and how to make it good again
so kids need to be understood, to be heard and accepted with their imperfections
kids cry in the moments we don't understand
they throw tantrums for reasons unknown
they act strangely
but all those situations are only to show parents
that something is wrong
that kids feel bad and they don't know why, because they are kids
that they don't like someone they are forced to interact to
that this t-shirt is not comfortable
that they feel left alone
so... effort to understand and secure the needs of a child is the solution... not physical violence...
@islathewitch I won't disagree with you as you make some good points. But there are scads of people that were shown love and eventually turned against those who were kind to them. I'm sure you have heard of people taking homeless in and showing them love and care, and then the homeless person turns around and kills them. You have kids killing parents and parent killing kids. I remember a long time ago spanking kids was allowed in school. Kids learned respect and to obey rules. Today's kids in school are disrespectful to teachers, bully others, and are on track to be headed for jail. In my opinion, it is better to train a person when they are young because when they turn to teens they tend to be rebellious and won't listen to anyone.
are we talking about kids or adults?
Kids, and kids that will turn into adults. There are good and bad with both.
if you act with patience and understanding toward kids, they will return the same
if you do this to adults, the reaction depends on their experiences

Frankly if it was up to me to sign a law that states it's illegal at homes globally (accompanied by a fine to those caught doing it) and all they needed was my signature, I would gladly do it. That answers your question as how I feel about it. My father used the belt when I was very little. I still hate that till this day, never thanked him for that and NEVER will. There are other ways.
I'm currently slightly over 5 months pregnant and want to raise our baby boy with boundaries, education (actually dedicate on teaching him, not placing fear in him) empathy, guidance and off course love. There is no need to use objects to get a child to obey and respect you. If you need to do that then you've already lost. You don't get anywhere if you try using bible quotes on me. Both my husband and I are atheists.
No, no kid should ever have to be spanked. I am however a believer of repercussions. So if a kid show behaviour that is undesired or unacceptable that should be a repercussion for his or her action. But there are many creative ways to handle that.
Like no screen time, no play dates, no games etc
Giving a tantum in a toy store because they can't have something they want, pick the kid up and leave, tell that kid to behave in the way that is acceptable or otherwise he can't come along anymore and he or she will certainly not get what he or she wants by acting this way.
Difference with nowadays is... That a lot of parents rather give them to toy to make them shut up and stop the tantum instead of putting in the energy of actually raising their kid. And make up excuses for it as they go along. (Like
I've smacked my son three times. Once when he reached for a lit gas ring. Once when he was running into a road. Once when he was running around a swimming pool (he can't swim).
Guess what three things haven't killed him or left him horribly disfigured?
I didn’t get hit too often, but it was not really that bad of a kid either I don’t have any psychological issues from it , it’s probably the only thing that works actually but they’re not allowed to do it these days
And then they wonder why so many kids are unruly in school these days, and even shooting them up. They were never told no or something. Spare the rod, spoil the child. They have no respect for law and order.
Yeah old school is better
I never got hit and the same results were obtained. There were still boundaries and no was a no. I never got in trouble at school nor with the law. I'm a normal, working, citizen. How about that? Just because my parents didn't spank, doesn't mean I got spoiled. So no, spanking is the only single way to raise a productive person.
**spanking isn't the only single way
@Danielle93 i’ve learned that it really depends on the kids personality because no matter how much the parents spank their kids, it might not do any good at all
I think it is a personal or family by family choice and it is something that may work for one child and not another so it should be done thoughtfully but in my case, yes I could be spanked, I was only actually spanked one time, I was terrified of being spanked so I behaved (at least I knew the limits I could go up to) and for me I think it worked. I am not sure it worked for my brother though.
Some probably do. All my mom or dad had to do was give me "the look" and I was so ashamed that I became an angel for the next several weeks.
That must have been some Evil Stare then. 😲
No, just a disapproving glance.
I think some spanking when kids are really young is ok, if not abusive. I got a few spanking when I was a kid, and it got my attention. I definitely wasn’t abused, and I’m fine today. Same with my kids.
No, kids should never be spanked. There are many other things that can be used to keep them in line. The best seems to be, telling them what's right or wrong and to give them an example and behave properly, yourself.
If you can accomplish that, kudos to you. Some kids just seem to have bad genes. If they never get disciplined, when someone in the future tries to do so, they may get killed. You read it in the paper every day, kids killing their parents, and parents killing their kids. It's a crazy mixed up world.
Do you know you can discipline without hitting? Just because my parent didn't spank doesn't mean there is no discipline.
@Danielle93 There are many possibilities: curfew, room arrest, ban on cell phones...
Some kids... and what I mean by that is some kids respond to that in a good way and they learn their lesson from it while other kids it doesn't work and you have to find other ways of punishing them
Spanking in my language simply translates to hit and no I do not believe in hitting children or anyone for that sake.
If I need to hit a child, to get them to listen to what I say and show me respect, I'm failing miserably.
Sometimes no matter how well you treat your kids they can act like entitled little brats. Especially if they have ADHD or something.
...
"Hit your children, especially when they've a disability that may lead them to behave differently than you wish they'd do"
I'm absolutely APPALED by this message. You should NOT be hitting your children ESPECIALLY if they've a disability that may interfere with how they interact with the world due to how their BRAIN functions differently than yours.
I sometimes wish I condoned violence so I could hit the shit out people who belief that you should be able to hit children.
This is BEYOND fucked up.
We actually have laws in my country that makes HITTING people and this includes CHILDREN illegal.
Adults that need to and advocate for hitring children need to face the same consequences when behaving in a way others do not agree upon.
Well I guess you can just deal with unruly children. Maybe you will be able to talk them down from shooting up a school? Oh, that's right Kip Kinkle killed his parents first, then shot up the school. How do you think no spanking your kids worked out for them?
@daniela1982 yes they should and I did a still do if they don’t listen first time.
but don’t do as hard as it becomes his memory.
we didn't need spanking...
a cousin of ours even got slapped... the disrespectful out of him, it worked...
was awful to see but, oh well... complicated things are these... for sure sure
Nope, I never had to be hit and I have babysat for kids. I never had to hit them.
If you have to use violence to solve non-violent disputes, you're a moron.
Some kids do not listen, and even make it a point to see if they can get you to lose your cool. Some will test you over and over again, almost like they want to write the rules. Sometimes you have to enforce your own rules and not be the victim. Even the Bible says that parents should discipline their kids.
Proverbs 23, 13 and 14, "do not withhold discipline from a child. If you strike him with a rod, he will not die. If you strike him with the rod, you will save his soul from Sheol." Again, we need to remember that that rod is the instrument of correction. It's not an instrument of abuse. And so children need discipline. They need to be corrected, but not be beaten in anger.
This precisely. I'll never understand the need to hit and invade a child's (another living person's) privacy. Unless two consenting adults are into BDSM, there is no reason a buttocks should be made to hit. That shouldn't even be done on a pet either.
Spanking is bad it give children opinion have the stronger taller person can do whatever they want to those weaker and create bully.
Plus it's done in anger and frustration. There is no where it's done out of love. It's contradicting. By the time you hit someone, you're already using negative emotions/feelings.
@Vesuvius87 Yes, this is just abuse
Indeed. It's so sad how people in this year still defend this barbaric practice. It's sadly still prevalent within Latinos. It makes me feel so ashamed of my ethnicity. Though there are a couple others that are turning away from it. Good. Hopefully one day this practice will be placed on its deathbed.
@Vesuvius87 They think. of their children as their propriety and punching bag. Don't worry it's not just Latino, I'm White French and my mother used me as a punching bag when she had a bad day, she used to let out all her frustration on me. That exist in every ethnicity.
It's also very popular in France in general too. So many people think they have a right to correct their children by hitting them and very strongly defend this "right"
Yes I hope so too
Honestly I have no sympathy for them if the child ever hits them back when they're older just like this 17 year-old daughter did. She hit her mother back after the mother slapped her and pulled her hair.

That Mexican mother then cries and plays victim. They have been hitting the child for year. Then all of the sudden when the child (much older) hits back, they give this pikachu reaction. If you hit even a dog for too long, it could bite you when it's older.
@Vesuvius87 yes it serve them right to get the violence back. Especially if they don’t show any empathy or say sorry. I never had the courage to fight back sadly it’s not in my personality 😿
Indeed. I never understand why the parents expect the child (the one that got hit) to apologize and made them feel they deserved it. That's twisted.
@Vesuvius87 yes this is so crazy, some people are sick
Nah, I don't. You can raise good kids without spankings.
Rarely. But is needed at times.
Ideally, sound does the job. tossing them out in teh cold for a minute also should work.
I was spanked by my daddy and my mom. I still get spanked 💃💯
Spanked not beat. And never done in anger. Yes, spare the rod, spoil the child.
No, after a while spanking does not do any good. I only spanked my kids once and it was just one whack on the butt.
Absolutely not, kids deserve to be shown gracefully and lovingly how to prevent bad behaviors.
Not everyone treats their kids that way, sadly.
Nobody needs to be spanked. What a strange question. Why would anyone ever need to be spanked? Especially a child!
I know right. That's a twisted logic. It makes no sense, esp those using a bible as an excuse to do it.
those same bible fanatics then talk about how a baby is a blessing and a gift from god... then turn around and excuse abuse.
They need to be guided too the light and taught right from wrong. If spanking them works for you, then that's what you'll do. Emotional correction seems like a good way forward too.
You can spank a child when young. But by ten or twelve spanking is useless.
By then it is a mark of respect to other kids.
Also once the fear has gone like prison it is gone. Like sex.
Nope, and kids should kill abusive parents. Only backwards America believes that BS.
Well you supposedly live in America too. How did your kids act when they were young, if you had any?
This what happened to a mother that would spank and continue slapping and pulling her daughter's hair until she was 17:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5GaDxMEys1g&t=9s
The Mexican mother got hit back. The twisted officer was still on that abusive mother's side and trying to advice the girl that since she's still underaged (17), to let herself get hit by her mother as long as it's not abusive!!!
Honestly I have no sympathy for parents that are hitters and get hit back one day.
Spare the rod and spoil the child…..
Definitely, but only in severe circumstances
As a last resort, absolutely.
No but girlfriends and wives do heh heh
I believe all kids need structure and discipline
