Is it ridiculous to name your son or daughter after you?

I just thought it was a little odd that my coworker named his first son after his name

It's not something I would ever do, but it's a fairly common practice, and has been for a long time.

I don't see anything wrong with it, if someone chooses to do say. I can think of a lot dumber names in recent memory that parents have chosen.

I'm having a baby boy and he won't be sharing any family names. He's his own person.

No, not at all. I won’t say it is fairly common but certainly happens enough. The better question is why anyone would care about what parents name their kids.

Yeah it's so cringe every time there is John Sr and John Jr. Plus it sounds selfish to think about yourself so much that you give your child your name. Ugh
