I need y’all’s opinion on something?

What would you do in this situation? My uncle came to town but we don’t have enough rooms and my dad doesn’t want to get my uncle a hotel room (which yes he can afford) would you let your uncle sleep in your room (which I personally don’t because that’s my personal space and I’m a private person), would you have your uncle sleep on the couch (which is very uncomfortable I should know I have slept on the couch before and it has effed up my back), or would you try and convince your dad that it would be better for everyone to have their own space and get him a hotel room? Which like I said I have tried and tried but not even the amount of convincing my dad still won’t budge! My mom even agrees that my uncle should stay in a hotel! I have even told my dad that his brother can pay him back for the hotel! So I need y’all’s opinion!

by the way my uncle isn’t from the states so he doesn’t really know the area! I do agree that my uncle could’ve booked his own room, but I feel like since it’s my dad’s brother he should’ve booked the hotel room for his brother and then my uncle could’ve paid him back!

If he won’t listen to his own kids and wife then it sounds like no matter what opinion or suggestions we give, it’s pointless. What does your uncle say about this? Is there a reason he can’t just buy his own hotel room without your brother having to pay for it?

Well, there’s no reason my uncle can’t pay for the hotel room himself, but my dad never offered him the option of a hotel. He just automatically told his brother that he can stay at our house without asking my mom and I! And I personally do not want to give up my room because like I said I am a very private person like I don’t want my uncle sleeping in my room and the couch is very uncomfortable as well so my uncle being close to 70 could hurt his back which he has previously hurt his back not too long ago and I don’t want him hurting himself again because the couch is very uncomfortable so I’m just trying to look out for him!

Your uncle is certainly aware of the concept of hotels. Why does your dad need to inform him (at that age) he has the option?

Well, my uncle does know about hotels yes but my dad told him that he could stay with us without letting my mom and I know that he will be staying with us. He didn’t tell us to last minute and it’s just BS in my opinion because I don’t wanna have to give up my room because I’m a private person, but I don’t want him sleeping on the couch, which is very uncomfortable and his back will be effed up if he does sleep on the couch!

I don’t see the problem with telling your uncle exactly that and suggesting a nice hotel you know of and putting the ball in his court. Holly summed this up nicely.

@asker my dad has done that before too, it actually was the last straw before I moved out lol so I get it. If this is a last minute thing then honestly there’s not much to be done about it but I would definitely say something to my dad about offering up my room without so much as asking. It just shows his mindset is: his house, his rules. Maybe this is your cue to leave the nest, if this is how it’s gonna be.

To be honest, I guess it also depends on what you grow up with.
It was pretty common in my family to have relatives sleep over / share a room with. They'd mostly take the couch though.
Admittedly, if your dad wants your uncle to stay at your place so badly - suggest he sleeps in your dad's space ;)

I actually do agree with this having my dad and uncle share a room would be a good idea because they are brothers and they did share a room growing up so it would just make sense and everyone would be fine but the problem is where when my mom sleep I don’t want my mom sleeping with me because my bed is not big enough, and I don’t want her straining her back on the couch as well because the couch is very uncomfortable!

Yes, my dad knew but he never gave my uncle the option of getting a hotel which he should have knowing he’s gonna be coming and he didn’t tell my mom and I that my uncle was coming till about like a few weeks ago
