Should my brother be upset with me?

A few days ago my mom and I stayed at my brother's house. He was on a trip and we were there because my mom had a dentist appointment. My brother has a wooden baby gate set up for his dog. Right when we walk in the door, my mom started messing with it, and broke it. I assume she would tell my brother but my brother texted me a couple days ago and asked if we broke the dog gate. I told him that our mom did. He never responded to me, but he called me earlier today, and I didn't answer because I was afraid he'd be upset with me.
