I saw this picture in the local press today and wondered what other road users thought. I'm sure it must have delighted a few kids. I've heard that all boys go through a dinosaur phase as they grow up. Did you go through one?
My mom made me a dinosaur costume for Halloween. It was some kind of green velvet material, had a tail stuffed with batting, and triangular fins going from the head to the tip of the tail. It covered my arms and legs. She even made matching, three-toed covers for the tops of my shoes that were held on with elastic. We found a horse head mask. She poked long, fake fingernails (the Halloween kind that slip over your fingertips) through the horse's mouth so that they stuck out like curved teeth and I painted the tips red. It was an awesome costume and I wore it for about three years in a row until I outgrew it.
I started reading dinosaur picture books and learning to draw. I also learned the names of lots of dinosaurs.
I learned my ABCs before I was old enough to go to school. In first grade, I made an illustrated dinosaur book and took it to school to show and tell. Such a precocious child. LOL Nearly 40 years later, that first grade teacher saw my mom's obituary in the paper and dropped off an envelope for me at her memorial service. She didn't stick around. When I opened the manila envelope, that dinosaur book was inside. She had kept it all those years. I cracked up when I saw it. My drawings were funny enough, but I had spelled everything phonetically.
One of the books I loved as a child was about Mary Anning who used to accompany her father who was an amateur fossil hunter. One day, they discovered a strange skull. Mary then searched for and dug the outline of a 5.2 meter long skeleton. Early paleontogists studied and debated the specimen for years. It was eventually named an ichthyosaurus.
At a young age, I wanted to be a paleontologist because I thought it would be cool to find dinosaur skeletons.
I loved going to the natural history museum and La Brea Tar Pits.
There's a place called Cabazon off of an interstate highway in the California desert. It was just kind of a pit stop with a gas station, store and soda fountain. My mom introduced me to date shakes at that diner. But there were two massive dinosaur statues there, standing on dirt with nothing around. They were famous. I just looked them up and found this short video. I had no idea that it has been developed and expanded.
On one vacation, our family stopped to visit Dinosaur National Monument and stayed in nearby Vernal, Utah, in which everything was dinosaur themed.
I never lost my fascination for dinosaurs.
There is a sculpture studio and gallery not far from where we live now. The guy does remarkable sculptures of wildlife, famous figures, cowboys and Indians on horseback and... dinosaurs. My wife heard about it and took me there a few years ago. Some of the sculptures are in the woods on the property. I got my photo taken with a triceratops and a saber-toothed tiger. They were actually about 1.5x the actual size because they are made for display outside museums and other places.
I have a small fossil collection of trilobites, ammonites, belemnites, a megalodon tooth, a small dinosaur tooth, some crinoids and small fish embedded in shale, and other stuff.
Paleontologists have revised their ideas of dinosaur behavior over the decades. They were once thought to be stupid, slow and cumbersome, dragging their tails around. Birds are direct descendants of dinosaurs.
I was totally jazzed when the movie Jurassic Park was released. It reflected modern thinking of the way dinosaurs moved and it made them look realistic.
New discoveries are made all the time. I am still very interested. Rawwwrrr
Yep. I recall being a little kid at the state fair, they had the life size dinos, and there was an injection molding machine next to each of them so for a fee you could watch rhe mold halves clap together and be injected with plastic, producing YOUR dinosaur... Awesome!!. To be fair though all of the nieces have gone through a sort of dino love, one going so far as to have a comforter with images of these thunder lizards emblazoned on them. Oddly, the one nephew had eyes for nothing but blimps (or dirigibles) and WW2 aircraft, bombers in particular. Maybe it has to do with something that might inspire awe?
hahahaha I think so! My nephew was all about dinosaurs from about age 2 and he still likes them. They aren't his focus though. I went through one. So did my brother. I'm going to say... yes, yes they do.
(That's two very excellent very normal questions. I think you have matured and gotten normal since I've been away.🙁 )
It's not a bad thing. When I was in the first grade, I was behind on reading and writing and comprehension, so the school and my parents put me in the public library, not just the school library, and I read every science book in the library 2 books per visit, 2 visits per week. By the time I took LEAP exams in the 3rd grade, my reading comprehension and writing was considered 8th grade level, and my IQ was calculated as 145 or 99th percentile. Most of this was because of studying Dinosaurs and Astronomy.
I kept up the "2 science books per visit, 2 visits per week" habit through freshman year in college, and I now have the second highest IQ ever provably recorded for a human being in the world history.
Not one phase, but different phases. When I refused to give up on my dreams, that was my Try-try-try-ceratops phase. When I was a vegetarian, that was my Brontosaurus phase. When I started driving, I got into a lot of Tyrannosaurus Wrecks. When I went to college and studied English, that was my Thesaurus phase. Now that I'm older, I'm just lazy bones.
When I was little, I was concerned about getting caught by my stepfather as I stroked my throbbing member. It was a phase in my life called Doyouthinkhesawus? He tried to get my interested in the Pegasaurus, but only when mom was at work.
Can't speak for others, but I know I did. I still run around the house pretending I'm a Raptor and then dig around in the fridge and randomly start huffing the gas out of the whip cream cans and hear the wah wah man from space.
I think so and my theory is that it is bc they are small and want to imagine or pretend they are something big, much moreso than adults or anything they see in normal life and what is better for that than dinosaurs, or maybe other huge monsters or creatures from movies.
Not sure about a phase, but I really liked Crichton‘s book Jurassic Park, before it even was Jurassic Park. The later film adaptation was almost a disappointment because it left out a lot of the science.
A good friend did and I was engaged in it but not very into it. I would say yes to dinosaurs, fire trucks, big trucks, guns, army, fireworks and certainly toy construction equipment in the dirt.
No we just like toys to play with mostly soldiers G. I. Joe and Evel Knievel motorcycle jumping action figure with the motorcycle toy it actually jumps along with the starter kit
If you think about it -- that's the only configuration on the truck that wouldn't look like butt sex.

no. not all. I've never met a blackberry kid who cares about dinosaurs. many blackberry kids don't even care what strawberries or blueberries taste like and I kid you not, have not even eaten one in their entire life. I learned this at my college when the professor asked for a show of hands on who had eaten a blueberry before.
