I'm a Middle Eastern girl with a typical strict family. Today, my brother and I fought, and to piss me off, he poured water on over 30 of my books. I cried and yelled because they’re precious to me. While I was crying, my dad came in and said if I didn’t shut my mouth, he’d burn them all in the yard. So I went silent, still crying. Two hours later, he came into my room. I showed him the damage, and he said, “Is this what you’re crying about? They’re fine.” I explained they’re soaked, their value is gone, and some are limited editions. I said it was over $200 in damage. He told me to shut up or he’d burn them all and beat me. I yelled back that they’ll never be fine to me—I care about their aesthetics, not just function. He got a metal stick and threatened to beat me. I snapped and said something awful in the heat of the moment—something I didn’t mean—and both my parents froze. My dad said, “How could you think I’d do that to you?” But then... he beat me anyway. I ran to my room, he followed, tried to take the books to burn them, but I stopped him. Later, he hit me in the head with one of the hardcover books. It still hurts. I said, “You just damaged it more.” He replied, “That’s why you’ll never succeed. You were born a loser.” I cried and wrote everything down. He came in, saw me crying, and called me an idiot. My mom? Still watching reels on her phone. Didn’t say a word. My brother? Didn’t even get scolded—because he’s the boy. I’m just the “idiot girl.” I wish I lived in a kind, caring family. I imagined them drying my books with me, comforting me, promising to replace them. But in real life? I’m mocked, ignored, and threatened. I can’t go to social services—it doesn’t work like that here. I’d just be labeled as a b****. My question now is: How can I earn enough money to replace my books? Some can’t even be replaced. Is there any way to fix them? Or make enough to rebuild what I lost?

TL;DR: I’m a 17F from a strict Middle Eastern family. My brother ruined 30+ of my books, and when I got upset, my dad threatened to burn them and beat me. He later hit me, and my mom did nothing. I can’t turn to social services here. I just want to find a way to fix or replace my books—some were rare editions.
