Why are we expected to text 24/7 nowadays but back during the 90s this wasn’t the case?

I don’t think my question is the best I meant like people expect to text 24/7 these days compared to the 90s where we didn’t need to communicate with people every 2 sec.

Cell phones and texting weren’t commonplace in the 90’s. The wireless phones that were sold to the masses at the time (mostly brick phones) were only capable of phone calls

Your update is like the same question just different font lol, maybe times have changed but people haven’t. You don’t think that if texting were available in the 90s or any time before that, Jake wouldn’t have been blowing Jenny’s phone up with texts or vice versa? Jake only had a pager in the 90s, which gave a code of numbers that Jenny had to transcribe then get to a pay phone, house phone, car phone or use her phone briefcase (none of which are very convenient). Responding to a “text” was far more nuanced so there wasn’t this expectation that you were going to send them back and forth all day.

Texting wasn't really available during the 90's, except in very limited amounts, so it just wouldn't have been possible then.
