When I looked for jobs I wouldn’t just submit applications and sit on my ass. I would go to those places I applied to dressed nicely and ask to speak to the manager and then ask the manager for application status.

From the manager’s perspective this tells them that you are a hardworker and really want the job.

In fact I’ve done this exact thing and literally was interviewed by the manager either that same day or shortly after and got the jobs.
