Why do so many fathers abandon their kids?

This is a taboo topic. Nobody wants to talk about it. People like to act like this is uncommon. But sooo many kids grow up without dads. Saying dad left when they were young and never came back.

How is this not illegal?

There are consequences. If you can locate the dad. And if he has any assets.

I'll flip the question. Why do so many women let themselves get knocked up by some baby daddy with a drug habit and no job? Like there were no red flags. You didn't see that train coming? Bobby Ray and Tyrone really looked like father material standing there behind the counter at McDonalds? Sucks but we don't get to choose our parents. And the pattern tends to repeat generation after generation in a vicious cycle.

I was the opposite of that. I spent as much time with my son as possible. It was my ex-wife who was basically an absentee parent for some of our son's childhood. As far as other guys? I think that some men aren't interested in spending time with their kids, or they suck at responsibility similar to my ex-wife. They're selfish, and the longer they spend away from their children, the weaker the bond and attachment they have to them. It's sad but the same thing kinda happens when a mother spends the majority of her time at work, or on vacations without her kids. She basically has no bond with her own child, and she would rather leave them with other people. So basically people gotta make an effort to raise their own kids and spend quality time with them. It's disgusting to me that anyone could abandon their children.

If I am with a woman who physically and verbally assaults me, I don't care if I have 6 kids with her. I am leaving. Why is that so bad to you? Self-preservation led me to leave. How about if she sleeps around and emasculates me? I leave so I am not emasculated constantly. There needs to be (at the minimum) respect. If she doesn't respect me or the relationship, it's damaging to me mentally. Maybe you think a mentally broken male figure is better than not having a male figure at all. I personally disagree.

Men don't want to abandon their children.
In most cases the law states a child stays in the house in which it's living. Secondly most women won't let a man leave and take the children with him. He then stands a good chance of gaining custodial rights. Women don't want that.
Most women don't have the means necessary to leave whichever house they're living in and star fresh on their own at the drop of a hat. That's why in most cases it's men that leave.

Different situations affect people differently.

Some fathers simply just don't want to deal with the burden raising children as they soon realize wanting a child and actually having a child is totally different scenario.

Some fathers are just wicked and don't care for their kids at all.
