Do you think we need to protect our daughters more than our sons?

Picture this scenario: you have two kids, both around 16 or 17, one a son and one a daughter. When you give them permission to go out with friends, catch a train to another city and come back late, are you more protective of your daughter than of your son? In other words, do boys get a bit more freedom? Are you, as a parent, more concerned when your daughter is away?

It's funny, because men are more likely to be victims of violent crimes but their lifestyle's are different than an average woman's. I do think men have an instinct to protect women they love, because they see them as being more vulnerable, mainly to MEN lol and it's true. I'm the youngest of four and the only girl and my brothers were just as protective of me as my parents. I had two stalkers when when I waitressed (as in the cops eventually got involved) and either one of my brothers or one of their friends would come to the restaurant before closing to walk with me to my car! I know it happens to men too but it's not nearly as common and usually doesn't turn violent. It's actually strange, because it takes men to protect women from other men! Anyway, theoretically, I think it's human nature for women to be protected but I would be just as protective of a son as I would be of a daughter.

Neither our son or daughter are anywhere near old enough yet... That being said, I can honestly say that I can see my husband being far more protective of our daughter... Very much in the same way that my own father was extremely protective of both my two elder sisters and myself.

no, we need to protect our sons more. cause they're out there getting fucked up with no help, while women are completely overprotected, hyper entitled and alreay completely overvaled or let's say "miss valued" in our society.

My son is too independent for me to even be able to protect him. One day I'm at his highschool graduation, and the next he texts me that he living in a town hours away working operating heavy equipment, lol.

Unfortunately, I think boys do have a bit more freedom than girls do in many places. Even if it is enforced by normalized danger instead of by written laws. I hoped this would keep decreasing in time before I have my own kids, but right now where I live things have started going backwards instead...

I think the best parents can do to be fair is to make sure both kids are aware and prepared in case of a bad situation, because even if the girl may be more likely to need that, it is also good for the boy to know just in case. He is just at a lower risk, not at no risk. He also needs protection.

ngl it really depends where they're going and what they're like (if i have to choose)

in some situations you are less likely to be assaulted as a woman and in others our chances go up significantly. i'd rather not send either if i had the choice lol

A 17 year old woman is just as safe as a 22 year old woman or a 35 year old woman. I may be more concerned, but I'm not going to prevent my nearly adult children from traveling.

There's no reason to think this when the majority of victims of violent crimes are male. I would be equally protective of both of my kids.
