Is spanking your child abuse?

I say no. I was spanked as a child because I needed discipline and taught that causing trouble has consequences. Obviously parents have gone soft and maybe even off the deep end.

In Denmark, there's no word for spanking, closest to it is smacking (someone) or hitting and smacking/hitting people especially children is something I consider abuse and I have a hard time dealing with adults who need to hit children to come clear, even tho I'm getting better at it (& at least professionally understand why that in some case happens out of powerlessness which is a bit more "acceptable" than just pure punishment as a consequence".)

Or I'm actually lying here; spanking in Denmark is solely in terms of sexual terms. More and more English is sneaking into the langue. 😅

Yes, it is. It's well known that physical punishment is harmful. In some countries it's illegal, as it should be. We should not allow an adult to assault a child while we prohibit assaulting adults.

No , but to some people it is , spanking is one thing but being punched is a whole different ball game , I didn’t get spanked growing up , I got punched by my Dad instead , because he was an abusive drunk asshole , , but as I got older i eventually stood up to him and punched him in the face , and after that he never laid a finger on me again , Nowadays parents’ can go to jail for hitting their kids’ so you are best to avoid hitting your kids’ as much as possible , unless they are super bad ,

Not exactly, but it is criminal violence against a helpless victim. If you actually FELT love you would never hit your child ever.
