Why would my dad say “ I know you wish I were dead”?

We were talking. We talked for an hour earlier today then I called him again to talk more.. I was a bit distracted looking at a video but I was listening maybe he felt like I wasn’t in that moment.. but I started crying because it hurt my feelings

You should really ask him about this. It sounds like a conversation that could really be expanded on and maybe heal some past trauma on both of your parts. He seems to think you hate or at least strongly dislike him and there’s a reason for that worth talking about.

Maybe he means you want to inherit his money. Which is a really hurtful thing for a parent to say.

So in other words the money (if any) would go to his wife, not you. Then I’m not sure why he would say that.
