I have had mostly good working environments but a few years ago I was hired by a local company to manage their engineers and technicians. It was not the position that I applied for. I applied for an engineering position but the owner liked the fact that I managed a IT department at my old job and he offered me the position. The job was to schedule service calls and follow up on the progress. The workers did not like the fact that I was keeping track of them and the complained to my boss about it. He complained to me about it. After a while I really had about 2 hours of work and had to pretend to be busy the rest of the day. I found out that the senior engineer had only been there for a year. People would disappear and nobody would talk about it. My boss would schedule a meeting with me and then not show up. I would sit in a conference room by myself for an hour. I had some ideas about making the department run better but nobody was interested. The HR director was fired and the owner's brother was hired to replace her. After being there for 7 long weeks I was fired.. They never really told my why I was fired and even admitted tht I showed up on time every day and did everything that they asked me to. Soon I got a better job for more money but this place is next door to a restaurant I go to a lot and I still get emails from them looking to hire me.
Sorry to hear that man. Glad you're in a better position now.
I have had good and bad environments. One thing I learned is that when I switched jobs there was always another asshole at that workplace too. They are everywhere. The best way to deal with toxic people I found, is to very quietly find out who else hates them because there are other workers. When the time is right, you will know when, and multiple people let management know, then there will be consequences for them. You push them into the spotlight I used to say.
Learn from what you can as you will be better able to spot bad toxic employees when you are a manager. All experiences have value. Donβt turn to drink, drugs or other destructive habits. Guard against that. Find what makes you happy when you have time off. I found hikes in the woods to be nice. Get some good boots/shoes, look up some great trails and have fun. Also check out day and weekend trips in your areas. Find what is in a 3-4 hour drive of where you live and stay in a motel on Saturday night. It is like a mini-vacation and helps.
The biggest thing I learned is that it all ends. After 3 years or so it changes for the good. It could be less time but it always changes as the people change.
My last place was really toxic, all I can say is leave!! Get another job.
My current is still toxic in the sense of being a corporate place in general, my employer is an asshole who doesn't give a shit about us employees and etc but my coworkers are mostly really nice women and I appreciate that a lot.
But yeah I am not planning to stay for long at that current place
Can't leave, jobs are hard to get in this country. Hopefully I get another job within 3 years
Toxic. Iβve been heavily debating on putting my two weeks notice in these past couple of days
What helps you to make it through the day?

I'm retired now, my work environment is fantastic!
When I was working, it was a very good work environment. Almost everyone was very professional... and fair.
It is always great. We are all good friends with each other. It is a pure joy to go to work each day.
My work environment is pretty clear. I'm the first officer, he's the captain.
Captain Philips, is that you? Ahh tom hanks : film should've been redone as a comedy. "They said I could be anything ) Tom Hanks voiceover in character) so I became a sea captain" πβπ’
@Twodogs0525 personally I've never actually watched Cast Away or Captain Philips/Phillips in full or hardly at all. You know? They're just not films that I sort of think - I'm more like a fan of Seinfeld type films "films about nothing, no big epic, no wider morals or preached message - just a fun carless movie" - then again, I'm getting off topic here. You like Seinfeld?
@mysteriousNicholas An interesting tidbit about Cast Away, there was almost an hour in the movie with no music and no dialogue. All you could hear was the wind and ocean. What's interesting, is no one noticed until it was mentioned later by Tom Hanks. He said they intentionally did that hoping it would give people watching a sense of isolation.
It's great. I'm self-employed. My boss is wonderful.
