Even though the crazy Latina stereotype is negative, why do some people think it's funny?

I know what's it like to be raised by two short-tempered Latino parents and it's not cute nor funny. It's stressing whenever someone gets easily frustrated and flies off the handle too fast. Getting spoken in harsher tones is stressing too. No wonder the kid (that happens to be Latino) then grows up stressful and has a hard time regulating their emotions.

I'll bring you a brief example of how my mother and I (both Latinas) would react differently.

My husband was taking care of our son and he took off his eyes for a second. Our son (then 7 months old... he's now 9 months) rolled off the bed and fell on the hardwood. He husband did admitted it was his fault for taking his eyes off a second as he was trying to wipe a spit-up. Our son is doing great and he had no fracture at all.

My reaction as his wife: Accidents happened honey. It's ok. What we need to do now is take him to the clinic, get him check-up. My mother was surprised I didn't get lash out at him like she would've have if she were me.

My mother's reaction if she was the wife: OMG, what an idiot you are, what were you doing, STUPID and rantings. Then she would probably shoved him a bit and act exactly like the crazy Latina stereotype before finally taking the baby to the clinic.

Still, how do people think my mother's reaction (only for being Latina) is cute and funny? I find that irrational. What will insulting my husband or getting physical by shoving him do? What does that solves?

This isn’t a race issue at all. WOMEN are permitted to be irrational even to the point of violence. Their skin color, culture and heritage are irrelevant.
This is why the myth persists that men are more violent. There is ZERO evidence to support that. 100% of the so-called “evidence” only proves that men are held accountable more often than women.
The culture has begun to change a bit and we’re seeing women held accountable more often. To the point that everyone is freaking out and trying to figure out why women are more violent than ever. Their research is consistently showing that women have ALWAYS been just as prone to violence as men. They were simply rarely held accountable, particularly under the law. This is a hangover from the ages when women weren’t allowed citizenship. So their fathers and husbands had to dole out punishments. The laws changed, women became citizens and the law was wholly unprepared to deal with antisocial and criminal behavior of females. Now you have an environment in which women are almost never held accountable. Why would they behave? There’s no shame and no punishment, and behaving is no fun. You certainly don’t get to call yourself a “boss b*tch” by obeying the rules.
Nice try with the race baiting, though. There are probably a bunch of idiots here who will agree with your nonsense.

You have taken a quite defensive stance. The reason I was focusing on this stereotype of the Latina woman is because all ethnicities also have their own negative stereotypes. We're stereotyped as the wild, crazy Latina as well as the mother throwing flipflops (la chancla) at their kids. Before that it used to be the one about being super religious.
Yes more women are now going to jail for assault and serving time, which is great. There is no reason to ever get physical with anyone unless it's really in self-defense or to protect your family.

My ex-wife scratched my face up on multiple occasions, both men and women would mock me for not doing anything, but if I ever did anything, I’d be in prison. We lived out in the middle of nowhere and I just kind of felt trapped with her because we also had a kid. It was absolute hell.

Crazy+loyal was the old cliché. They had the gangster attitude with a trad-catholic view on motherhood and being a loyal wife. They’ll mess your world up if you cheat them. At least thats how us white guys in the middle of nowhere 18+ years ago thought of them. More petite darker models of white girls is all they actually are.

Good point about the loyalty part. We tend to place value on our family a lot, even when they have their own flaws. I'm loyal till the very end but if my husband doesn't reciprocate (if cheating happens) there is always the door and a divorce, along with him continuing to pay child support. After being a mother for the first time at the late age of 38 (later than usual... barely made it to motherhood) and dealing with disappointments and stressors in life, I have a softer approach in general and really don't have time to be dealing with jealousy, trivial arguments and much less fighting for a man that doesn't love nor respect me.
Some of us are actually taller (5'7) too. So far the stereotypes I fit are loyalty, family oriented and spoiling my husband with meals. I'm a non-believer just like him too but I can still be just as devoted as a religious woman.

Yeah its a cliché, some white girls are darker than them too. The similarities between y’all are more numerous than the differences. Y’all are prettier on average in my opinion.

The bad part is that it's very generalized. They also continue making jokes about the Latina woman chasing her kid with a flipflop (aka Chancla) and yet I'm going to do the gentle parenting approach with my son.

Exactly. The way my mother acts isn't funny at all. That's toxic. She even argued with a waiter once and that guy got verbal too. And my mother still went on and on. Her friends had to pull her away, tell her to stop. They were afraid the guy would lose his temper and hurt her.

Then it actually turns into a toxic relationship/marriage. Plus what if the man truly had a terrible day at work, isn't in the mood to be dealing with naggings nor reprimands and the woman flies off the handle or even shoves him during an argument or grabs him in an aggressive manner and doesn't let him leave to calm off; then he's going to be even more stressed out and in some cases can explore. Then it becomes a mutually toxic relationship/marriage.

It's really a bad example for the kids too. I believe a marriage should never get to the point of insults, much less physical. That shows a total disregard for the wife/husband and blatant disrespect.
