I had a geometry exam today and I just got done with it. My cousin is upset that I couldn’t make it. I had to study for the exam. I couldn’t make it. I needed to raise my grade. She said, “Bogus excuse! You’re always working, going to school! Live a little! Besides I haven’t seen you in six months! You could have came for about a few hours and then go back home and do your work!”
I really wanted to come! I told her, “I’m make it up to her. Next weekend I’ll take her out for lunch or have an outing.” She said she’s going out of town next weekend.
I feel terrible but I needed to do good and I struggle with math. My mom told me everyone asked where I was.

I didn’t know about the party until later today. I wish somebody would have told me sooner until the last minute!

She has no right to be upset at you for prioritizing your education over games and fun. I do exactly the same and don't let anything come between me and my education.
You were right in doing what you did and she should understand that you want to achieve something in life and not waste precious time doing something or attending events that don't really bring anything constructive. Furthermore, there is always alcohol flowing in those parties and that is certainly not something positive, mainly if you want to study afterwards.
It is definitely not a bogus excuse to want to achieve something in life and to have to sacrifice other things to achieve that goal.
