Is it okay to cut off an abusive brother from my life forever?

So recently my brother got mad over me telling him I didn't care for the fact he took me to the pier without asking he just said get in his car. He told me to stay away or he'll get police involved.
He used to abuse me when growing up as my oldest brother would beat me with a suitcase, pour boiling water on me, try to stab me or even hit me with a hammer.

Is it okay guys and girls on here in your mind to cut him out of my life forever? Like the getting that angry over the pier made me depressed as it brought back some of those memories..

You don’t need anyone’s permission to cut someone else off. In this case I’m just not sure why you haven’t done it already, given your history and what’s happened in present time.

Sadly have tried to talk it out, but he is the type that if it isn't his way everyone is wrong but him type of person.
I told him once I don't trust him over that and he wanted to punch me...
