Does anyone else have a parent who cares more about things than family?

As what the title says. He doesn’t care about his family’s health. Only the car. The other day a relative had to be hospitalized. The first words out of his mouth when he got to the hospital was getting the car home. Today my sister had to move back home and he’s arguing with everyone in front of the moving guys because he thinks he won’t fit his car back in the garage. Basically taking a fit. Saying things like, he paid the guys $500 to toss everything out.

Sometimes a parent may seem more focused on money, possessions, status, work, or keeping things in order than on emotional connection with their family. For the children, that can feel hurtful, lonely, or like they’re less important than the parent’s priorities.

I can't say that I can remotely relate to that situation and thank goodness for that. It sounds awful for someone put something so immaterial over family.

I wouldn't wish that for anyone.

Your sister must feel very welcome at a verry stressful time in her life. What a great way to show support during what must already be a humiliating experience for his kid. He sounds like the child.

He will never show support to his wife and his three kids. He’s only nice when he needs something. Like when he was on home care hooked up to IV for months. He was really nice then.

His one friend texted my mother this morning asking how he was. He’s been having trouble with his foot for about a year. Dr said stay off foot which he hasn’t. She told him the truth. Said that he’s been to six doctors for his foot because he thinks it’s the doctors. And she told the guy how my father yells and torments all of us. The guy called my father and my father went off on him. Told his friend don’t call or text him anymore.
