Am I wrong for hating an entire family for what their grandad did to me?

When I was 5 I got assaulted by a 50 year old man for wanting to step on a bird. He died 3 years ago and I still hate him very much and I hate his whole family and wish them the worst. I really hate them all.

What that man did to you as a child was horrible, and you have every right to be angry at him. But his family shouldn't have to carry the blame for his individual actions unless they participated in it or covered it up. Holding onto that level of hatred for people who might be innocent only keeps you tied to that past trauma.

The grandfather is understandable we don't know the whole story so we don't know if it's the right thing or the wrong thing to do but one of these days you'll figure it out and you can either keep doing what you're doing or apologize but the whole thing is up to you we can't tell you what to do with something like this

It is burned into your psyche because you were 5 years old and it was traumatic. At 50 he should have handled that better. He likely freaked out but should gave stopped you and explained why we don’t do that. I will bet no one thinks it is as big a deal as you but your feelings are fair given the circumstances. If you can’t let go of it just forget about them.

I hope the bird was deceased , maybe he didn't explain and just aggressively attacked you. It's vital to explain to children.

It's probably best just to cut them all , and move forward.
