What’s a fair way to split expenses when renting from married friends?

I’m considering moving in with my best friend and her soon-to-be husband. They recently purchased a home, and I’d have my own bedroom and bathroom with access to the shared spaces.

We haven’t discussed financial details yet, but I’m curious what others think is fair.

Since there would be three adults living together, would it be reasonable to split expenses three ways? Or should I expect to pay half since they’re a married couple?

I understand I’d essentially be renting a room in their home, but I also wouldn’t be building equity or have equal ownership of the property.

I value our friendship and don’t want finances to create problems.

What would you consider a fair arrangement, and how would you approach the conversation if they expected you to pay half?
