What causes a love-hate relationship?

I believe I'm in one and I don't even know how it happened. I mean, there's this girl, she is nice and funny and we get along great most of the time, we have spent so much time talking that we know each other responses and its like we can read each others' minds.

However, a lot of times we start arguing or saying things that irritate the other and get mad and stop talking to each other, its just so weird, I wish we could get along all the time but there always seems to be something that bug us. I have many female friends and I have never had this situation, they all know when I'm joking and don't take my comment seriously and I don't take their seriously, but with this girl I can't go over a week without getting into some kind of fight, why is this? We are both friendly people, but can't seem to be with each other.

i think a lot of times it means you are very close and have similar personalities so sometimes the two similar traits clash with each other. they say there is a thin line between love and hate.

this guy I dated and I were like that, we would pick at each other a lot but I could tell there was a connection there at the same time. don't know how to explain it but you get frustrated with each other yet at the same time can't leave each other alone

it's kind of hot as long as it doesn't get too extreme

Thats exactly how it feels (well, how I feel at least). I like talking to her and being with her but she can get so stubborn and we argue and leave each other alone for a while, then we start talking. She seems to be the same way, she gets annoyed out of nowhere but later comes up to me to talk like nothing happened
