I used the words a few minutes ago so I try to use an analoge here to explain it.
I have a love hate relationship with raspberries. I do like the fruit, but we never buy them as we have more than enoughmin our garden, but gathering them is complicated and I hate it as its a big thorny mass of blackberries and raspberries. It literally hurts me getting what I like.
Now the same situation for a relationship, you can either love a person but there might be things about the same person you can't stand at all. Take a brother and sister that are the result of a broken family. They stay in contact and maybe are on different parts of the fight that broe the family. Both of them know, that the other is the only person that can actually understand them and they stay in contact because of this. They are there for the other if they need someone to talk to about the family proboems. If a different topic comes up they are on opposites sides and can't stand each other opinion.
Love some aspects but hate the person.
Or hate the person but love some aspects.
