1. You have to be skinny

A runway model is usually a 13 year old girl who's had her hair tousled and a ton of make-up layered on to make her appear to be older than she really is or some steroid taking guy. When you are out there starving yourself or desperately trying to bulk up to look like "the woman" or man you saw on the runway or in the magazine, you're really trying to compete with someone who hasn't even reached puberty yet or has to do inhuman things to "stay fit". Stop it. Look for clothes that fit you now and focus on being healthy. Healthy IS NOT a specific weight or size or amount of muscles for every single woman or man on the planet. Everyone needs to find healthy for them. Be healthy for you, and rock clothes that make you feel good now, not 50 lbs from now.

2. You can't wear this or that

Unless it just literally doesn't fit you, which I wouldn't recommend wearing clothes to anyone who don't fit them, big or small---but aside from that, if you like the trend, if you like the retro, if stripes or polka dots are your thing, wear that because it's you and it makes you feel good. I recommend things all the time, but so what, if you don't like it, don't wear it, and be happy in your own skin and in your own fashion.

3. Only the rich can look fashionable

I call the biggest bullsh*t on this. Every time I write a budget piece, someone chimes in with, well, I don't have money, so I can't look fashionable. Almost all of the designers on the planet scout strip malls, and skate parks, and the streets of (insert city) to get a lot of their inspiration, which means, regular people, who make not rich AF money, are a huge part of what you end up seeing on a runway anyway. You don't need a name brand bag to be fashionable. A black t-shirt, a pair of skinny jeans, some thrifted heels and the bag you made yourself can look amazing. In fact, a lot of the most stylish celebs opt for simple looks when they are out and about that people go crazy for, but it's no more than a few pieces which you can find at any price point.

4. Fashion belongs to a certain race

We all wear clothes. Everyone can rock fashion if they want to, whether it's that budget piece or that expensive one. Clothes are for all, so don't let someone convince you that if you aren't a certain race or so called class of people, that you do not *gasp* deserve fashion.

5. You have to wear the trend

It can be stupid frustrating when a trend comes out and you hate it or feel it does not flatter you, but that does not mean you "have to" wear it. Trends come and go for a reason. Stay true to who you are and rock what you love whether it is the new black or not.

6. Men should not care about fashion

Clothes belong to everyone, and if you have the style, you have an eye for fashion, you care about the way you dress and look, then don't let anyone's own BS get in the way of you wanting to look the way you look whether that's an amazing suit and bow tie or spending 2 hours scouting a pair of sneakers.

7. Fashion is a waste of time

You are on GaG right now, so you there, yes you on your high horse, tell me again, about wastes of time.

8. Fashion isn't important

The history of who we are as human beings can be found in fashion. You can learn about whole cultures by the way they dress, who is in power, what weather conditions they lived in, what was in, what was out at the time, their political leanings, the wars they fought and which side they fought on, how rich or poor they were, or what fashion moments helped change the world. Fashion and clothing isn't just functional like the food we eat, it carries with us through time our entire history.
