It makes sense. I was into K-pop when I was younger and always questioned the weights they have given. Like for example SNSD all seem quite tall, and for all of them to be 45-50kg is very unhealthy. They were always kinda freakishly thin (in my opinion), but still...

Yes. I remember one of them - I can't remember which - was 52 kg, but put her official weight as 49 kg instead, just to hit the below-50 mark. Given that they are not that short, yes, it is an unhealthy weight. However, that figure is very desirable in Asia, and within Asia itself, would be considered the ideal. So I can understand why they fibbed - it's all about the image one projects.

Don't Asians care about health? I was once 45kg (at 168cm) and my body basically gave up on me and I had very irregular periods (I averaged around 72 days)! But during that time I had the body that is considerer the most desirable in Asia.

As like with anywhere in the world, social pressure can make people do very unhealthy things. I doubt most Asian women are unhealthily thin thought. The prevalence of very thin women might be higher in South Korea, considering its very high beauty standards, even in comparison to the "generic" Asian beauty standard.

Most Asian American women who still have family in Asia will tell you, that even though they are considered slim by American standards, would, when they return home for visits and visit extended family, would be considered overweight, even fat.
