Ok I have to say I love this post with the Beholder thingy. :v
Beauty has a different concept everywhere except common things like healthy skin and hair (duh) and the ideal body is also determined by health/lifestyle. Like how in earlier ages plump women symbolized wealth and good food when everyone else would starve, how women with slimmer bodies are attractive with all the fast food and rise in obesity and lack of exercise.
But some external things are actually preference. My ex always told me I could look so beautiful if I was pale, he said I don't look good when I smile. My boyfriend now is heavily envious of my skin and believes that I have the most gorgeous smile and he loves my lips.
So yeah it's a 50:50.

there's always going to be an ideal of beauty that's considered "universally" attractive, like someone like angelina jolie for example, but even those women, as beautiful as they are, are not considered attractive by some.
so yes, it's definitely in the eye of the beholder. everyone has different preferences.
Hahahahaha I literally went to get a pic of the game 'Eye of the Beholder' and was gonna make a joke about it being ugly. But you beat me to it!

I have it in my clipboard, so you get to see some 16-bit gross drooling gary gygax mush
Objectively, symmetrical facial features, having a full head of hair, possessing a strong and lean physique... all of these things are universally attractive.
Subjectively though, personality and demeanor greatly influence attraction in interpersonal relations.
I suppose it depends such that there could exist life other than humans. If there's not (or if you're referring to just humans), then I guess you'd have to conduct some studies with fairly substantial sample sizes to see how the variation or lack-there-of maps out. It's such that seems that it's rather difficult to answer such a question without collecting some reasonably significant amount of relevant data and analyzing it in some way, otherwise we're merely left with using our intuitions on this one it seems.
No, physical beauty preferences are evolutionary and biological. All that "eye of the beholder" bullshit is just something that hideous looking people say to make themselves feel better. They're too mentally-weak to put down the tub of ice-cream and workout, it's much easier for them to embrace the delusional concept of
"body-positivity".

Only if the eyes are free of judgement and society's influence.
I find a lot of people just automatically find what society finds attractive.
It's funny watching how fashions change.
It used to be all about small tight asses. Now it's big round asses.
And all women suddenly are into beards lolPhysically, there are certain traits, i. e. symmetrical face, that are universally seen as attractive. However the rest is down to what the individual finds attractive. Next to that we have the argument of the beauty of inside, that obviously depends on the individual
Good to know people are still playing D&D!

I am reminded of an old Twilight Zone episode:I thinks it's mostly subjective and that beauty is the eye of the beholder. But certain things like symmetry and other features that shows us signs of good health is biological. Although our taste is different, the majority of us prefer someone who looks healthy.
Not really. There is a reason people agree that brad Pitt is very handsome. It's a ratio. You can also be attracted to the pheromones Someone gives off. Your genetically inclined to be attracted to someone with heathy genes and someone with different genes than you. That's why I am clueless when a hot white chick walks by and I'm not nearly as attracted to her as I would be a hot black chick. White women feel like my sisters.
yes yes yes yes. when i have feelings for a girl it's like there is nothing more beautiful. like she is every bit of beauty. i can't find anything else more attractive. even on her bad days. to me she is gorgeous
It definitely has a universal side to it, so no, not completely. Of course there will be some who think differently and it will always vary just a little bit from person to person how attractive someone is.
Of course. I find some guys attractive, that my sister finds yuck.
Some things are universally beautiful or ugly. Everything that's in between is in the eyes of the beholder. if smn thinks that a girl is extremely beautiful smn else would find her at least average but almost never ugly. There's a tendency in my opinion
If you look at evolutionary psychology, no, it is not. People can generally agree what is attractive and what is not.
Damn those pics scared me hahah
But yeah its true beauty is in the eye of the beholder because me and my best friend have totally different types of guys we likeI'm not attracted to all models and I know I have friends who are attracted to women I am not and vice versa. Same goes for women being attracted to men.
Plus props for the funny beholder pictures.I agree, and those pictures brought me back to my days cooped up at home, reading TSR novels, which, if you don't know, are based entirely on actual games of D&D the authors played.
yes because someone who really sees you for who you are inside will see the beauty on the outside
yes, I believe it mainly is...
so imma roll a d8 and try shooting the beholder in it's big eye using my bow.Definitely , some people find beauty in things or persons that others wouldn't. Beauty is what you make it.
Yes, of course.
Everyone has different preferences, likes, and dislikes.
I know a certain preference for girls and my buddy has a complete opposite of it.Well we have to otherwise everyone will only like the same person..
it depends. some traits are in the eyes of the beholder, but we cannot deny that there is an OBJECTIVE beauty
there are some girls u cannot deny they are prettyno, when we're talking about physical appearance only.
