Why does it seem like girls wear shorts more often than guys?

So I know the title question might not apply to absolutely everyone... but I live in Florida, and around here, while shorts are common in general, girls seem to wear them a lot more. Outside of formal places and school, girls around here basically wear shorts by default... even in winter some of them still choose to wear shorts.

Guys, most of them wear shorts too, but I actually see quite a few still wearing long pants... but for girls, it's quite hard to find one wearing long pants.

While I'm not complaining, I'm sort of wondering "why?" Guys are not expected to shave their legs (and barely any actually do), while girls are (and almost all of them do)... so isn't that more work? Guys can literally just whip on shorts any time, while girls have to put time and effort into shaving/waxing/threading/etc, or else they'll be judged the hell out of. Shouldn't guys wear shorts more often? Plus, girls often wear shorter shorts like mid to upper thigh, while guys wear a hand above the knee, so that's more shaving to do.

Do girls just have a lower heat tolerance than guys, and so they don't care if shaving sucks? Or do most women not mind shaving that much, and only a few complain online? Or a girls in general just considered more attractive in shorts? Just what could be the reason?

Again, I'm not complaining... I don't exactly want to see more hairy male legs, and less silky smooth female legs, rather the other way around... but I'm just curious. Guys can whip on shorts any time, while girls have to shave... yet girls wear shorts more? What?

I think it's just that "showing skin," especially bare legs, is seen as more of a feminine thing. Go to any beach, and you will now see men wearing big, ten-like long. shorts, and women wearing barely nothing, tie on the side string bikinis.

This is largely due to a cultural shift that occurred in the mid to late 1980s, where men started covering themselves up as a reaction to the gay Identity movement at that time. A guy wearing short shorts was signalling that he was gay. Especially since hip-hop went mainstream at that time, and its long and baggy style became the only way for males, young and old alike, to dress.

At the same time, if a guy wanted to wear short shorts, it would be very hard because hardly anybody makes them for men anymore, with the exception of running shorts, and even most men now wear those longer, too.

At least one whole generation of people were not alive or were very young when men regularly wore shorter shorts. They are now entering their 20s, and it will take a lot to convince them that this is an okay thing to do. I know there's a group on Facebook called "Men Can Wear Short Shorts Too" where the members often talk of harrassment by others for wearing short shorts and being men. The harrassment includes having strangers take their picture, rude comments from young men and women alike, and being pointed and laughed at.

I can't argue with that first short paragraph. That's true. Though around here in Florida men's swimming trunks are a good hand or two above the knee, and thong bikini bottoms are not so common... just the regular ones in which cover the private parts and show off all of the legs, and only a small hint of butt cheek.

Yeah, it would be hard... the only type of shorter shorts I know are some swimming trunks and bodybuilder speedos.

That fourth paragraph, all of that is good info as well! It's kind of sad, really... people should not be judged so harshly on their clothing. People can be so superficial, sheesh... I'm not personally a fan of short shorts on guys, generally they're more flattering on girls, and shorts above the knee some are more flattering on guys... but still, it's their choice!

I may have been exaggerating slightly about the beach thing, but the point stands... it's just more "acceptable" for women to show skin.

I totally agree that people should be allowed to wear whatever they want. Sadly, they all too often aren't...

Yeah... it's sad... but with acceptance becoming a thing for literally everyone lately, hopefully people will stop judging others for how they dress, and doing so will become looked down upon! Sort of like how looking down upon people of different races, the LGBT+ community, and overweight people has become taboo! Hopefully it will become taboo to judge people on their clothing, too.

I wear shorts in summer because it's super hot in my area. And I shave my legs even in winter so that's not a concern.

I know people wear shorts due to it being hot, lol. I was just wondering why it's more common for girls.

And different girls, different concerns on shaving, I guess... some shave even when wearing pants in winter, and don't mind it... while others absolutely hate the process of shaving.

But yeah, I guess most girls don't really mind shaving that much. The ones that complain just make more noise, lol.

Around my area it's just legs... I mean I'd be lying if I said I NEVER said a girl around here with tiny shorts that ride up their ass and show their butt cheeks... but they are less common, and made fun of, and looked down upon. They are considered "slutty." Usually the shorts girls wear are mid to upper thigh length... some extend a bit closer to the knees, but they're always above the knees by a good shot.

And no, we don't make fun of booty shorts to their face... that'd be mean, lol. But it's like when they're out of there, we're like: "Did you see her shorts? I almost mistook them for underwear! Does she realize how much of an object she's making herself seem?"

In here the only place ass is appropriate is a bit in a swimsuit... and even then, just a bit of butt cheek in which is closer to the upper thighs... thong bikinis and such which show the whole ass are not so common. We don't make fun of them, as it's a beach/pool... but it does make some people uncomfortable.

It's nothing biological, more just for style. Shaving really isn't that big of deal, it's almost therapeutic. Especially the feeling after. Wearing sweats after shaving your legs is one of the greatest feelings ever.

Well different girls different feelings, I guess. Some find shaving a big deal, while others don't. Maybe the ones that don't find it a big deal are just more carefree and positive, and the majority does find it a big deal... or maybe the ones that find it a big deal are in the minority after all, and shaving isn't so bad, they just love to complain, as people in general just love to complain.

But one thing both types of girls agree on is that shaved legs feel great and look amazing, as you already said. Both types like having shaved legs... one type just really dislikes the process of it.

And it's true! I've never felt much legs besides my current girlfriend's, but hers are already ultra soft anyways. She's a girl, meaning her skin is naturally soft... then add removing all the hairs... then add how much she drinks water and uses lotion/moisturizer... you've got yourself some pretty smooth legs!

I really suggest regardless of gender shaving your legs sometime in your life. Touching them is one thing, but feeling them touch things is another. :)

Ah, yes! My girlfriend says she loves feeling her smooth legs touch each other as she crosses them, and feeling them against the blankets and such. She also says her legs receive more air that way. Many other girls have said similar things about smooth legs, too!

Yes, someday I will indeed, haha. It's a promise. I haven't yet because it's not 100% socially acceptable where I live... but I actually have seen a few guys do it. I even have a guy friend who refuses to go out in shorts unless his legs are clean shaved like his girlfriend's, and he has been that way since he was 14. He dislikes body hair so much, he takes the pain of waxing it all off.

And no one makes fun of him, actually... he's handsome and muscular, so people don't mind.

I don't know if I would look as good with smooth legs, haha. My legs aren't muscular at all, and I have rather thick thighs for a guy... I think my legs would look too delicate if shaven. But I'll try someday! :)

It doesn't even matter if they look good shaved. I still shave mine in the winter so I can put pants on and have that feeling all day. 10/10 would recommend. It's best if you put lotion on after, so they still stay silky-smooth.

I just love feeling my girlfriend's smooth legs... now actually HAVING smooth legs myself, that would be even better! :D They wouldn't exactly be as smooth as hers, as due to biology, girls in general have softer skin... but they'd still be really soft!
