They are there, because they are protecting from getting an infection, they are a natural barrier. After shaving you have a lot of problems with skin, personally I get abscesses. Shaving is NOT hygienic. When it's hot and you have no pubes, you're starting to sweat terribly. I will never forget how smelly I was even after washing 2 times a day after I shaved once. So no, shaving has nothing to do with just a cheap non harming procedure.

The truth is that it's indeed more hygienic to let the hair grow. Its also more protective of the genitalia on both partners during sex since it serves as a padding during intercourse. And for me, I know that the woman I'm going to make love to is sexually mature looking. I would think that anyone would want to be with someone who has a visual symbol of being mature enough to engage in such activities. Nature is beautiful when left alone. Nature didn't get things wrong and its arrogant of us to think we somehow can make it better than it already is.
