Is wearing two dutch braids cultural appropriation?

I do wish people would get off this cultural appropriation jag it are a hair style nothing more, anyone who reads more into it than that are the ones with the problems.
I used to plait my sisters (all 4) hair in to braids from the late 70's to the early 90's
The same with my nieces until they decided they were too old for braids.
@alexdt000 Not a problem, you are young, braids are a part a part of UK culture too, it is not surprising to find them in different cultures as it is a common way for women and men to keep long hair out of the way while working/playing,
Corn rows are multiple small braids that extend away from the scalp very little.
In the picture, I see two large braids that extend away from the scalp quite a long way.
You are talking about two completely different hair styles. Other than being braided, these hair styles have nothing in common.
The world is poisoned with cultural appropriation and political correctness. It makes me feel sick.
Do with your hair what you like. In my country two braids were worn by young unmarried women hundred years ago and it's still part of our folklore. Does that mean any married woman shouldn't wear it today?
No... I'm Dutch, I don't care, and you shouldn't care about having hairstyles that are "cultural appropriation", it's just something SJWs made up, if you wanna have cornrows, have cornrows, if you wanna have Dutch braids have Dutch braids, nobody in the right mind will care
Every culture on earth has braided hair. Wear styles because they look good on you. You cannot steal someone's culture unless you say you ARE that culture when you're not, like the Dolliole woman. Now that was appropriation!
@alexdt000 Braids are of no SINGLE culture. They are Dutch, African, Spanish, French, Belgian, Swedish, Swiss. There are some hairstyles that might be more associated with American Natives, African tribal groups, and more. But it's a HAIR style.
I suppose some oddball person wearing such a hairstyle is trying to "look like a FILL IN THE BLANK" and assume that "cultural identity." When I was a kid, there was a big thing about wearing American Indian style mocassins for bedroom slippers and even as outdoor shoes. I had a pair or two.
Was this denigrating Native American culture by the dominant culture? It was assimilating a native shoe style into the broader culture and acknowledging its usefulness. Black Mardi Gras Indians use Native American dress exactly as a cultural appropriation because they were not allowed to parade on Mardi Gras Day due to racism. But if they dressed in Indian garb, they were "no longer black."
So strangely, this cultural appropriation protected the black men from arrest and discrimination. Now, it has become assimilation as the beadwork the Mardi Gras Indians use is similar to beadwork used in African clothing. So who did it first? Chicken egg?
Unless someone PURPOSELY DENIGRATES a culture whose clothing or hairstyles or cultural events it participates in or uses, too much has been made of this. I understand how minorities might feel used, but every culture uses what they like of another. It is the world melting pot.

Do you now where the first light bulb was made what's that Thomas Edison... Wrong history says Joseph swan Edison was plajourising multiple inventors of USA and England my point is anything we use do or say if unacknowledged or we simply don't know the history or respect that history is appropriation it's not always a bad thing in fact a culture learning from other cultures can help that culture develop. Whether positively or negatively. I think if you like the hair style go for it.
Why is cultural appropriation a bad thing anyway? You're paying homage and respect to a culture by harboring one of its symbols. I mean, if you are not French but want to fly a French flag, you will make me happy, not anger me, because it means that you put great value into France.
I think... garlic.
That's not a culture
Lmao, I spit so much water everywhere. my desk is a mess, my laptop. . . I'm a mess. I'm still coughing up a lung cuz I laughed so hard that I had to gasp for air and the water went in my lungs.
You're a legend.
They’re called Dutch braids. Care to guess why? Not because the Chinese invented them. Not because the Australians invented them. Not because the Africans invented them. It’s not racial insensitivity.
Jesus Christ, stop with this BS "cultural appropriation"...
Another pseudo-scientific term invented by liberal-arts majors who couldn't find a job... :/
These types of braids have been around for at least the last 50 years. I've seen pictures of them. They are somewhat reminiscent of German girls with braids.
Thousands of girls wear their hair like this. Hell, I wore my hair like this the other day. Wear your hair how you like it.
No way. Braids are so different from Cornrows. Anyways, I think a better term would be "Cultural appreciation"
I know you're young and all, but grow up. Nobody has a cultural hold on hair. It would be blacks appropriating white (hair) culture, if we cared about that.
A cultural outfit might be a different thing.
It looks nothing like corn rows. And those braids are a white girl thing so you're good.
People all over the world have been braiding their hair for thousands of years.
Yes also stop wearing their wooden clogs, the Dutch get pissed at that too.
1. It's not the same at all.
2. Cultural appropriation is a BS thing the liberal racists made up.
the mere fact you said culturally appropriate i'm not even gonna dignify that with an appropriate response
We call them 'pig tails'. Been used in UK for decades. Used a lot in western Europe, too.
You realise thousands of girls wear their hair like this it has nothing to do cultural appropriation
Blacks have been known to rock all kinds of hairstyles... it doesn't look bad on someone else though
Can you please crawl into a hole and die you imbecile?
If you're white, everything is cultural appropriation. Just do what you want.
Who cares? Freedom of expression is more important than catering to feelings.
Who gives a fuck what it is. If it's hot, do it.
Only Norse wifemen are allowed to have braids.
It's not the same at all
If you're not Dutch you can't wear it
Not at all.
It makes you look like a queen so no
I love the look.
